Solar panels for the house

I have been looking at this :

http://www.sunwize.com/products/gts.htm

as an alternative for powering the house and pool. Does anyone actually KNOW someone that has used solar power instead of electricity? Not a friend of a friend who's aunt has one or anything like that.

The state of FL actually give you a grant that pays for 60% of the cost if you agree to be one of the first to use it.

My moms BF has some big ass solar panels. They're on a pole so they can turn and follow the sun. The house is small- 1200sq ft. Sometimes the meter runs backwards, then the state has to pay them!

Yeah...my neighbor has three decent sized panels on their garage roof. They would have added a couple more but those panels are pretty heavy.

I think he said it cost him $40,000 to install, Maine reimburses 50%, he gets large tax credits, and he's still on the main power grid anyhow.

His bill for June was like $8 from Central Maine Power.

i go swimming at my wife's uncle's house with her all the time. he has 3 up on the garage roof to heat the pool. pretty good deal. the pool stays really warm way into the night. not sure on cost. i know it circulates the water through a filtering system.

if it rains for 2 or 3 days though, the water gets and stays cold for awhile.

Your local electric company should kick in as well. . .I've seen a couple of things on Dateline or 20/20 (or one of those shows) and on Discovery. I'm interested. . .

it is (soon)becoming equipped with a back up battery that is suppose to power your house for 10 days straight in the case of a total black and you can't get any sunlight to recharge the battery. (impossible length of time for a solar blackout, but that is their example they give). It currently comes with a battery now but it doesn't say exactly how long the spare charge is good for.

Did they quote you an effective cost savings on your Electricity Bill? How long before they pay for themselves? One thing I have never heard discussed is, how do they stand up to a hurricane debris field?

They pay for themselves in 4 years. they are said to withstand 190mph hurricane winds however the part I have no idea about and can't find info on is should an object come crashing into them, how fast can the company come out and replace them. I wrote and they sent the standard "we will be in contact with you shortly" auto reply that had a link on the bottom to a private manufactor that build these huge impact resistant bubble type shells to place over them in the event of an approaching hurricane. Not sure how good they are.

wait a minute WTF we talking about. Ok, last I checked you don't have to worry about hurricanes. At the most you only have to worry about Freddie coming over and throwing a brick through it. (yes he MOVED!! he was thrown out!!!! I won!!! hahahahahaha. except for you because he is moving to NJ)

AAP...ask them about rebates or credits for providig neighbors with power.

My neighbor actually receives a check some months. When they stay in Florida in the winter...their solar panels create enough power for the other 4 houses on our street. He gets like a $25 check every month during the Winter and Spring.

Wow that is something to consider. Let me see if they have that mentioned on the website.

lol, i'll find someone for him to do. I mean, something.

Don't know about big ticket grid tie sources.
Did a small setup to keep the tv and computer running without all the gas noise and fumes. (at anchor, off the grid boat)

inverter
voltage regulator
large "marine max" batteries from walmart $65 each
panels from: http://store.solar-electric.com/index.html
(site is cheezy but prices and service is good)

Long wait times for certain good panels.
Not sure why, but I dig the Kyocera

I'm going to wait until Vivian Alberts invention starts being produced here in the US. They aren't going to start production unti 2007 and that is in Germany. I figure by 2011 I can get them for my own place.Hopefully by then I'll have my own place.

Vivian Alberts solar panels (the guy from South Africa) are 4x cheaper than silicon solar panels.
