diet coke has aspratame, and its a carcenogenic (sp?), once it gets heated to 101 degrees in your body it becomes a poison..just wanted to let you know..
i werk at an italian restaurant so they got soda and stuff on tap, so what i do is grab my cup fill it up with one sip of lemonade and drink it kill my sugar hunger and then drink just water. I feel that once you stop drinkin sugary drinks all u need is a sip once in awhile to put yourself in check again.
Diet Coke, or the new Diet Coke lemon stuff (pretty good IMHO) if ever. Mostly just water though. Went on a 100 mile bike ride and bonked at about 75 miles last year. That was the last time I had a regular soda REALLY NEEDED THE SUGAR!!
uh.. the whole point of diet coke is to eliminate the sugar.. that fucking shit they substitute is pure shit, not sugar, it wont give u energy, u shouldn't depend on coke for energy anyways. Like justinM said, its basically posion

I had a regular Coke, NOT DIET, because I was in the middle of nowhere (yes, there was actually a random Coke machine on a farm we rode by) it would not have been my first choice by any stretch, but it was my only and I needed some sort of nurishment.

While I agree water is the best fluid to drink for the body, I highly disagree with your statement on aspartame being a carcinogen. I would be interested in reading any scientific study showing/proving this. Likewise, the toxicity claims that are being referred to by the aspartame "heated to 101 degrees in your body it becomes a poison..." are due to the methanol creation. Methanol is a byproduct no matter how aspartame is degradated. There is more of this byproduct in most fruits (ie apples) than HIGH amounts of aspartame.
Force yourself to down two 24-packs of Diet Coke over a couple weeks or so... I swear you'll get to love the stuff... you'll never turn back to regular (sugary) soft drinks again.
