Soda or Pop?

Do you call it soda or pop?? Us NYers like to refer to it as soda...whenever I hear someone call it pop I just think that sounds so hokey...and yes this question is important enough to start a thread!

fizzy drink. though i usually just find it easier tocall it by its brand name. i feel really stoopid when i say fizzy drink. and pop. 'pop'....it makes me laugh just thinking about saying it

I find pop to be too much of a 'white trash' term. It goes hand in hand with calling your parents ma & pa.

I call it by its name. Pepsi or Coke.

Just for the record, if you refer to Cola as "soda" in a bar, they'll give you seltzer since that what "soda" really is. Ask any bartender or person who went through school for it, like me.

However, in any other place, I usually refer to it as the brand name or soda. Actually soda is often a general term for any carbonated drink, to me.

Either way you slice it, POP is super gay. I'm talkin capri pants, pink shirt wearing, purse toting gay.

As an Australian both soda and pop sound kinda queer to me.

Whats so difficult about just saying the drinks name? coke, pepsi, fanta, solo etc.

If you say 'You want a soda?' or 'You want a pop?' how do you know what drink your getting?

It's "Pop" here in the Midwest.

I noticed that as well. When I was in Houston, I often heard "coke" for all pop, even other brands. "What kinda coke can I getcha, hun?", etc.

It's all a regional thing. But normally I prefer to call it by the brand name itself, example: "Pepsi is good, Coke is shit" But if you are referring to it in general, its definitely pop.
