doesnt matter how big you are or how small you are, some poeple have huge calves, some people have small calves. so, if you were born with small calves, you'll die with em, and that is that. no other way around that shit...........what the fuck are you looking at?

I have medium sized calves, but I HAVE to work them 2-3 times a week and hard. If I don't, they go bye bye. sucks

Rugby is great for building strong calves and hamstrings.

The training used for Muay Thai is also excellent. Check how well developed a Thai fighters legs are the next time you see one.

From a bodybuilding perspective, not that crazy

Maybe not.....they all train in the same gym here and I'm telling you those Muay Thai boys have some seriously developed legs for guys that weigh around 65kg's.

the key there being the disclaimer "for guys that weigh around 65kg's"

Hey...that's big for a Thai. Most Asian men are a very slender build.

I think calf muscle appearance as to size, or bulk, depends a lot on how long the leg is from the knee to the alkle. Longer than average and the muscle is stretched out making it appear smaller.

If you have average or shorter than average length knee to ankle bone(me), then the muscle isn't stretched and can bulge out and appear larger.

good point, amigo.

my calves suck, they arent bad to the point where other people notice them and say to themselves "that dude has chicken legs", but they sure bother me considering my thighs grow like weeds and my calves grow like shit.

Spot on.

To some extent it has to do with your body type. The calf muscle on an African man is situated higher up than the average Westerner making him a better runner.

I find that to keep calf muscle size they have to be worked almost daily.

Calves are way genetic. My wife has better looking calves and she never played sports, ran, lifted weights.....nothing until a few years ago. Mine are stronger, but are very long. She has the high insertion point. Arnold must have gotten implants, back in the day. He never had any, then voila, jacked ones that he still has today. Must be implants for them not to atrophy.

mine are medium, i dont work them individual, they are just there.

I have this high insertion point you speak of but I'm as white as they come. My legs are long as fuck (6'3) and my calves are shaped like a ball rather than an elongated muscle. It's weird.

Would you say you're a better than average runner?

probably on the high side of average

It's weird how even from an early age that they can now tell what sports you're body type is predispositioned to.

The Chinese have been using their own selection system for years.

You have to work calves with at least twice your bodyweight for them to grow any significant amount. Higher reps than most bodyparts too, like 12-20.

Mine arent that great and having good thighs compounds the issue

Calves and forearms are pretty much the only muscles that stay relatively big after building them, because they are used constantly in normal every day activity.

I could never do calves again and they would still look good. The only thing I would lose is the striation underneath.

It has been my experience that many of my clients have a measurement of upper arms the size of their calves. However my pumped arms are bigger than pumped calves

16" arms
18" calves

i guess i would say i have a good pair. lifetime of soccer, daily bike rides, and twice a week of grueling weight training have given me my pair.

try working and stretching the shit out them... literally do 75 reps with heavy weight, stretch out your own fascia and see if they don't grow. Also you can do a reverse calf raise with your heel and this will work the shin in front and at least make them appear bigger... that being said i work calves when i get bored and they stay at 18" and almost always have veins popping, so yes a ton of it is genetic.
