So what's the current word on bumping old threads?

Seems it's been happening here and there without getting locked. Given the new 'similar threads' feature in this version of vBulletin, one would think that if it was indeed taboo (see: archaic sticky above), either said feature else bumping of threads older than x would be disabled.

Enquiring minds and stuff.

what's the problem now, samoth?

i saw it.
i'm not sure why you're confused (again).

Everyone else seems to understand it clearly.

I really don't personally care, so if you just don't want to address it, feel free not to in as passive-aggressive manner as possible. *shrug*

i'm pretty sure I addressed it in the thread I made that said, "don't bump threads."

everyone else understands it, as you said. You don't, but don't care anyway, even though you made a thread about it?

Many of the new threads I have seen bumped were obviously made by new members who saw that thread in the 'related threads' section of another thread. As I am not a new member here, it doesn't affect me personally, though; so in that respect, no, I do not care.

I just think it'd be a negative to have conflicting messages to new and potentially long-term customers of the site. This confliction per se is what people appear to understand and agree on, as shown by the above replies to my OP.

Since it's obviously something you don't want brought up, I will end with this thread here.

Please stop trying to pretend that I'm not willing to discuss it, but for a smart guy, you seem to have a ridiculous short attention span. I made a thread, which was stickied for a long time at the top of the forum. It may still be there.
So in case you forgot it, i'll summarize: Thread bumping is not allowed. I don't know how much clearer I need to make it for you, but i assume that if you don't understand, you'll just make a few more threads or posts about it, then claim to not really care.

any other questions and you're free to pm me, since the rest of Chat isn't going to have the answer for you.
