So there was this RIPPED guy at the gym using light weights

So this guy was like eyepopping good looking. Not in the face but in the body. Some guy asked him how much he weighed and he said liek 145. The guy looked 170 at least, but he was really lean.

So he was doing bench with 135 and worked up to liek 145 or 155.

Then he was shoulder pressing like 65.

He was doing very short rests between sets and his muscles were looking really good and pumped.

The dude was obviously not very strong, but damn his body looked good. Gave me a whole new perspective (I like being strong so I;m not going to train my body differently but it was nice seeing someoen who wasn't self conscious about not lifting as heavy as he could. he was just doing good form, solid number of reps.)

I LOVE lifting heavy. If anything I would switch off between the heavy and the controlled lighter reps every other workout.

you should do whatever you want. if u want to be lean and tone, do it. if u want to be massive, do it. nothing is out of reach if you believe in yourself.

Or chemically enhance yourself and go from big and strong, but buttery to big and strong and lean. Can be done.

I don't care how lean I can be if I don't have size and strength to go with it. I can get lean lean easily. Getting ripped while still having alot of muscle mass is much more impressive.

Especially if its natty ;)

when you're lean, it doesnt take much to look "big".

People thought i looked biggest when I was near competition weight.....152!

its all illusion. As for how he maintains it, I'm sure he either had to put in the work earlier and he may be just keeping it light now.

man i know exactly what your talking about.theres this black guy thats i always see at the gym whose ripped as can be.only weighs about 150.does nothin but light weights.says hes whats to look good not big.saw him max out on bench last week (185) but youd swear he could do double from his looks

i know a lot of strong black people. im not racist at all and i do think some black people have amazing genetics. my old tennis coach was black and can still bench over 400. hes prolly 50 years old and 5'6"

Ya, you can look alot bigger than you really are if you're well proportioned and cut, but so what?

It's much more impressive to be big and cut. When you look like that, you look yoked even with clothes on. And you're probably real strong too.

I'd rather look like I can bench 500 and be able to actually bench it rather than look like I can bench it and struggle with 300, but that's just me.

I agree, I'm much more conscious about my strength than my leanness. Nothing beats lifting the heavy iron.

I kinda disagree here. I think that once I get to a certain size and strength I would just want to maintain it. Doing lighter weights and more reps is the way. I know many people who work out all the time and definitely do not want to get too big. So they do the 15+ rep range all the time at weights that are easy, barely ever change their routine, so they stop growing and getting stronger, I can understand that, even though I am going for decent size and definitely for strength, that lots of guys don't wanna be too big... hence the lower weights.

yeah me too! once I get to a lean 240 I'm going to maintain with easy sets of 15 with 500 on the squat.

It's horses for courses, if you want to be a GQ kinda guy then lift light weights.. there's actually a dude at my gym who never goes over 35lber dbs and he looks really good because of his insanely low bodyfat & the fact he has some muscle.

That's why it ain't shit imo lol.

I could look sorta GQ'ish if I got real elan and kept hitting the weight, but so what. Most any guy can achieve that look within a reasonable spectrum of healthy males and the reason is because it isn't all that difficult to be lean and have soem decent looking muscle. It's MUCH more impressive to have a large amount of muscle and strength while being lean.

I'm like you tweakle, I want to be 225-240 lean and yoked lifitng big weights.

Most of the guy's that lift regularly at my gym have that small boned, athletic looking build, but to me, even though they look good to the eye, they lack masculine physical size and power. Maybe that's just me, but a six pack and a little bit of muscle does not impress me.

I hear you man... to the naked eye (girls) it does look good! but for us... the brothers of iron!!! We know the big dudes pay their dues! I like to hit a compromise... big AND ripped! :) No point having all this muscle and putting a fat blanket over it! Still, you look good dude! Keep it up bro!
