so many friggen training routines

i be kiz

New member
i've been trying to come up with which routine im going to use, and was thinking DC for a while, but i realized doing all those sets to failure would be a daunting task without a spotter. Then I looked at the 5x5 and HST...and to be honest I'm a bit overwhelmed. If somone could make a recommendation, I'd be pretty glad. I'm 16, 152 lbs (13% BF approx). I plan on doing some hardcore cardio while lifting how i am now, and once i can see my abs pretty well (probably around 8% BF) I'll focus on bulking up and use one of these training routines. If any other information is needed for a reccomendation, just ask.

P.S Just realized im a Good Bro...go me!

To make the best gains for your age try DC's routine. It really isnt that complex when you get to know it and your only doing one exercise per bodypart which keeps it simple so you wont be intimidated or over train your body. As for going to failure just ask someone for a spot in your gym most people would be happy to help you.

For your age I would not try the 5X5 most likely you would over train your body and get minimal results.

Also theres no point in going from 13% BF to 8% only to bulk up again would be a waste of your time. At your age just bulk up and stick to DC's diet you will ither drop in BF or stay the same but put on alot of muscle. You dont want to cut bulk you want to do it the other way around bro!

heh thanks a lot! thats exactly the kind of post i was looking for...any input from others (as you can see im new to lifting from the cut-bulk thing)

Use DC's methods.

Don't focus on cardio while bulking. Do 30-45 minutes of brisk walking on off days, if you so desire. I do this anyway just to clear my head sometimes and to get out when I have nothing to do.

Follow everything exactly. Have at least a cycle of 2 exercises, and eat 2gP/lb-BW like it calls for. Make sure to train intensely and you'll be set.

Bulk, then cut. Yes.

I would recommend Old School personally. It will familiarize you with lots of compound movements, and if you eat, you will pack on some serious mass.

Really, at your age and stage of development, pretty much anything would work as long as you didn't overtrain. I think a lot of these 'named' routines (5x5, DC, HST, etc.) are for more intermediate advanced types with specific goals beyond building some basic core strength.

if your gonna do DC's program, do it hardcore bro. dont cheat out, and do everything right. eat how he says, train how he says, stretch the way he says. if you want to see my personal outline of my DC routine, just let me know i can post it in this thread.

*edit* oh..and you dont need a spotter on every exercise. you just need them on chest, triceps (close grip bench press), and maybe shoulders. mostly during the static pauses, to help you raise the bar back up.

and yes, ppl will stare at you while doing the stretches and statics. they are weird, but they work. i guarantee during a static hold someone watching thinks im trying to push another rep out, and they want to come help. and during the chest stretch, ppl think im crazy holding a DB fly out and just laying there for a minute.

Yeah......what he said.

You're not supposed to hold a fly, you're supposed to hold 2 dumbbells as if you were going to do a bench press, with the DBs close to your chest and let your elbows sink down.
