The just redid a bunch of the science and technology buildings at Oak Ridge National Labs. I got the grand tour, and less than five minutes into the tour they show you two buildings. The look virtually identical, and are 90 degrees to each other. Comparable size, comparable infrastructure, and almost identical architectures.
Then they tell you the only difference between the two buildings.
1) One is a privately-built building constructucted to ORNL specs -- $218 / sq foot.
2) One is a goverment-built building constructed to ORNL specs -- $375 / sq foot.
Our goverment needs a massive downsizing immediatly.
