Smith machine

I remember the gyms back home, the average fitness centre will have a few non-olympic bars (rated to about 200lbs) and lots of shitty substandard machines. It's a totally different gym culture ... luckily there's some decent gyms but theyre few and far between

I like the regular smith for some lifts but the angled Smith is truely a worthless horrible piece of shit that should be melted down. My local gym has 3 of those homo magnets :(
just curious - what lifts are you refering to? the only thing i do with the smith is shrugs

oh, what you do if you want to INCLINE or DECLINE (NEVER FLAT) on that machine is stack 45's under one end of the machine until it's vertical. If anyone asks you what you're doing tell them to buy decent equipment and you won't have to improvise.
how do you prop up a decline bench that is bolted down :o
that's what i had in the gym i was refering to earlier :(

I love the fact that my gym has two smith machines. This allows me access to the 2 squat racks, the power cage, the 5 flat benches and 2 incline benches any time I need them, while others are waiting in line to get one of the smith machines...la

Same here, man. I workout at a gym on a college campus, lol. So when everyone is bitching that it is jam packed and there is a line for the Smith and the section of the Universal to do cable crossovers and underhand scoops for the pecz, and of course the Cybex preacher curl, I have the squat rack of my choice and enough floor space to do any pull I want.

I also get a kick out of the line for the two or three back pads. Hell, I've seen this one guy who uses the bar pad when he does smith maching flat presses. I guess he uses it to get a little extra spring when he bounces the bar off his chest.

By the way, how you enjoying Ann Arbor?

lol, at my gym everything is bolted down, the benches, the db racks... everything exept the smith machines :D
