Damn, Code I don't see how you could be so obtuse...I see this in many of your posts. Both the Law and the exaggerated punishment are what is in question here. I do agree that takeing some herb to school was a stupid risk to take, but unlike you, I don't see how having taken this risk makes him a stupid person. The fact is is that this Texas town is letting their Christian conservative ideals get in the way of what is right and wrong. The problem with Christian conservatives is that they think that if someone breaks the rules preached by the congregation, that they have the right to exile them from the community and use the law to do so. I know I just got off on a rant...people like you just piss me off.

Im sorry for the trouble your family is going through bor. I pray that the people involved come to their senses and this gets resolved in a fr more reasonable manner. He sounds fortunate to have the aid of superior counsel, which will count for a great deal.

No doubt the law, like many of the similar laws in the country, was made particularly harsh to discourage drug dealers from peddling their trash on school grounds. I can't say I dsiagree with the reasoning. Equally unfortunate is that many of these scumbags use school children as go betweens, and that may have something to do with the lack of an exemption in this case.

This boy wasn't dealing, and that should be a deciding factor in how the prosecutor or the court chooses to adjudicate the matter. It's unfortunate that it has come this far. Without a prior record, I find it hard to imagine that even a conservative Texas court would sentence him to anything harsher than treatment, which may be in his best interests anyway. As a minor his record will not be permanent, another silver lining.

If there is any positive in this at all, it may be that it may have scared him straight from doing far worse. Statistically the odds arent with him if hes already smoking pot at that age. Perhaps this will act as a deterrnet from far more dangerous substances down the road

This is not right wing philosophy. Islamic fundies are not right wing either, they are theocratic, which, depsite the philosophy of an idiotic attorney general, are not "conservative".

This is authoritarian / statist; using the state to influence behavior deemed "immoral" (drug use).

Both parties have embraced statism inasmuch as it is politically viable. The presence or absence of statism among political parties, and the political affiliations of the assgobblers who did this, does not leigitmize this behavior as "right-wing".

FYI.

Believe me, as someone who has been arrested three times, I empathize with the accused.
