Slumping sholders / bad posture

People have commented to me that I have bad posture, i.e. that my sholders slump forward and my neck is more forward than it should be. Are there any ways to fix this? I think it might be from an overdeveloped chest or underdeveloped back. Any exercises or stretches would be great, it has really started to bug me. Right now, its uncomfortable to pull my shoulders back and my neck stright up.

you might want to get checked out for scoliosis, curvature in the spine. A lot of times it causes that abd posture look and no matter what you do it wont get better.

Really? Maybe I overemphasized the problem, I've seen other guys with the same thing, I don't think its anything major, just bad posture.

Some simple things that will help you fix your posture are things like, sitting up in chairs & putting your car seat in as upright position as possible. It will be uncumfortable for a while but, you will get used to it. I used to slouch really bad. It takes a constanst concient effort. Hold your shoulders back & try to keep your back straight while you walk. They also make contraptions that you can wear to help, I don't know how well they work though.

DRRman,

What specific exercises do you recommend? Will stretching help?

supertech69,

Thanks, I just moved my seat at work into fully upright, good tip.

Themachine01,

I remember getting a standard check for scoliosis every year in school and I was fine, so I don't think its that.

Anymore tips would be great, you guys rock. Karma all around.

So you look like Mr. Burns off the Simpsons eh? :D :D :D
j/k.

Both my brothers have that type of slouch. I'm the lucky one I guess, but I'm not sure what's up with it. Doctors didn't give much advice for it.

Yeah, its not even my back thats slouched, just my shoulders and neck forward. I really want to work on it though. This upright chair thing supertech69 suggested seems to be a good idea, I always used to slouch in my chairs. Keep it coming bros, thanks.

need rowing exercises

You have imbalance between chest and back. Do face pulls, rear delt flies, rows with wide/close/medium grips with either barbell or cable, behind back shrugs if your ass is small enough, and stretch traps everyday. For me its really strange because my lats are so overdeveloped compared to my delts that they actually force the shoulder out to the front.

i also forgot rotator exercises with either cable or dumbell. Also don't forget that you won't simply fix this in few weeks. Incorporate more deltoid and rowing movements and in time you'll see your posture even out. This imbalance was probably caused by (im guessing) years of not doing enough back, so I'm sure it'll take some time to correct it
