My sister had a small speck of melanoma, cought it real early, shes about
36 and has pretty fair skin for an italian.
3 basic kinds of skin cancer:
basal cell
squamous cell
melanoma
Nurses like to say that when they cut the first 2 kinds out, "they're out". (of your body)
especially if cought fairly early. Melanoma is the scary one, the scars left by cutting out them are usually big they go deep and they are not concerned with cosmetics, but saving your life.
One thing you wont hear or read, but that prompted me to go to dermatolgist is, a light, deep, peculiar tingling at the site, sure enough, I had a squamous cell there, cut it out.
Doctors say most were caused early in life, in teenage years, with severe sunburns, although lots of melanoma hits body areas where the sun hardly shines.
Some dermatologists use cameras to show changes in moles or
nevus as they call them. One doctor I went to and pointed right at the tingling area said it was nothing to worry about, just a nevus, glad I'm somewhat in tune with my body and followed up on that bad diagnosis,
and went somewhere else. If you don't want to spend the money spend
the time, scrutinizing every inch of your body with ultra keen eyes, have someone checkout your back etc. Lots of good sites with descriptions of what to look for.
