Skiers, boarders...Mammoth

I'm going to Mammoth for the first time. I'd like some info or opinions about it from those who have been there.

My friend with his family goes all the time. TONS of powder.Very long runs.(One run is 5 miles long I believe). Huge jumps and a good park.

It usually snows like crazy there. It's pretty much the snowboarding mecca...(For Cali peeps at least)

I was at Mt High yesterday....good times.

I was just trying to add some first hand info to the thread jackass(jk). It may be the obvious, must thats seriosuly all I hear from peeps who go there.

Lodging? Pretty much a place to sleep.

I never hear anything about the bars/drinking/nightlife. I guess everyone is either boarding or sleeping....

EDIT: Before I forget, people there like to make fun of Asians.

Kak - I can ask my ski friends about it if you'd like.....
yes that would be much appreciated. I was thinking of you when I made this thread. dont know where you are location wise, but I had assumed you had gone to the likes of Mammoth or Breckenridge.

I use to be an avid skier when living in southern ohio (SnowShoe Mountain, WV was only a few hours away) but then living in atlanta for 4 years, i didnt get a chance to, then moving out to cali last year I havent had the time or money to really pck it up again. at this point I probably am really rusty so Im focusing more on just having a great time. Hence the partying questions.

I'll let you know what they come up with....

OK Kak, here is 1 reply I got:

"Underrated resort, tough drive from L.A. (5 hours) and thus, maybe not as talked about/popular.

The town itself isn't really much of one because it is spread out and while you could walk it, you'd be trekking a mile down the access road. Intrawest built a new village with a gondola that goes straight up to the mountain without having to drive to the mountain, much like Killington's Skyeship gondola. There are new restaurants, bars, and even a "club" to be had.

There are some good restaurants in town (down the main road) as well, but my favourite bar is a local's joint that closes at 11:30 called Clockteller Cellar. Cheap drinks, good mountainfolk, mostly all locals.

I recommend Mammoth highly if you know what you're getting into - it's not a Colorado ski town by any stretch of the imagination, though the newish Village construction (not big, not small) offers consolidated venues that are fun and easy-access to the slopes."

thats a perfect synopsis that I was looking for. thank you very much Jen. Im sending you some K :)

seriously, that was nice of you to do.

Another:

Don't Go!
MM is a weekend area. Mon through Thur it's pretty quiet but weekends can be a zoo with all the SoCal crowd driving in. Mountain terrain is good but the runs tend to be a bit short.

It's always in Ski Mags top 10 resorts - worth going.
