i have no idea whether it makes them feel good or not. . .however. . .i'm pretty sure they feel like they are probably having an affect on the outcome. . .and maybe they are to a certain extent. . .michael vick won't be selling anything for nike (or anyone else anytime soon. . .big deal). . .but at the end of the day, they've sacrificed nothing except maybe a few breaths and a few moments of their time. . .to the would-be do-gooders, i am merely challenging them to step up to the plate and do something that will actually make a difference. . .not because anyone will pat you on the back, not because anyone will even notice that you're doing it. . .but, because it's the right thing to do. . .

it's not about god or rainbows smartass. . .it's about recognizing that you are a citizen and part of a culture and with that membership comes certain rights, privileges AND responsibilities.

the fact of the matter is, by the time the football season is half over with, all this dog-fighting stuff will have disappeared from the public conscious. . .does that mean that there's no more dog fights going on in basements, and barns, and garages, and warehouses across the country?? hardly. in fact, it will probably wind up being more popular than it was before. but, people will feel better about it because they don't have to look at it anymore.

it's horrible, it's terrible and it has no place in a civilized society, but the fact of the matter is that (hopefully) none of us are actually attached to it, therefore there's not much we can do about it. what do i mean? if you're a breeder and/or perpetrator, you can decide not to do it anymore. . .and if you're feeling especially contrite, you can contact the department of justice and offer to help bring down the other players that you know about (a very unlikely scenario). however, if you're just average-joe-pet owner, you can't do shit to curb the activity because you have no connection to it in the first place.

the point of my thread? if you want to do something good, start wiith the things that you have a connection to. . .things that you have control over. . .like your foot on the skinny pedal. . .or your finger on the light switch.
