Is the similar threads thing at the bottom new or have I just never noticed it?

After what period of time does a 'new thread' become reclassified as an 'old thread'? As it has been categorically stated that the reintroduction of 'old threads' to the front page is 'not acceptable', would it not be better to clarify this point? And, if anally retentive hard and fast rules are going to be applied and enforced then why isn't the system changed so that after a set time period a thread is automatically locked preventing anyone from inadvertently bumping it?

Agreed, what's the point in having it if it's only ever linkin you up to old threads that you get banted for if you post in them...
