Shoulders and Single Factor 5*5

Lonsdale

New member
Hi guys, i'm on the single factor 5*5 routine (madcow variation).

My exercises are:

Squats, bench press, row, deadlift etc.

I've been on it only two and a half weeks, but am thinking to myself that there's nothing here that directly hits the shoulders. Are the pressing movements enough, or should i incorporate something like barbell military press every mon and fri?

my goals are muscle mass and strength. and i'm not familiar with clean movements et

You can sub in standing military for inclines on weds. Alos, the rows really hit rear delts hard. Plus bench, dips, etc; there's plenty of shoulder stuff bro - it just ain't laterals or reverse pec decks or nay of that other bodybuilding nonsense stuff :)

All those exercise work shoulders a lot. You will be suprised how much work your shoulders get. Like guinnesss said, you can do military presses and even throw in a couple sets of behind the neck military presses. Don't worry though, you shoulders will get worked hard.

The SF version has incline bench on Wednesday. As G5.0 says, you can dump that exercise and bring in standing Military Press. If you're doing MP, I wouldn't add any behind the neck work onto that. Make sure you do your MP standing since that brings your core strongly into the exercise.

Back in the day, the big exercises were Squat, Overhead Press and Deadlift. After the OHP was dropped from the Olympics it kind of fell into disuse but the exercise is a fine developer of overall strength.
