Hey i got an Mri next week , i already know what i need done cause i've been dragging this on for 3 years . Now the pains to much i can't lift , sleep or hardly bring my arm accross my chest without pain . I need to have 3 holes drilled in my shoulder and the tendens repaired . How long does it take to recover , atleast enough to lift ? The Doc. says like 3-4 months , is this right ? It can't be that damn long .

Hello,

I feel for you, actually have a similar problem and currently giving my upper body a rest.

I think the surgeon was right on and 3-4 months will be typical recovery.

Your are probably in much better condition than his average patient and may be in the gym doing light weights, stretching within 6 weeks.

Good luck, interested in knowing your progress.

aaahhhhhhhhhh , this is gonna suck , but i can keep it possitive knowing i have a stock pile of shit for when i'm better and still adding ......thanks bro

I had Shoulder Surgery in 95 after a Football accident.. And I got the legiment tighten and the bone reconstructed.. And my arm was in a sling for about 1 1/2.. I could not do anything until about 5-6 months.. Then I started lifting really lightly.. Do as the Doc says cause it may take longer to recover after.... Its not that long.. But you will know when yoiu are ready.. but a word of advice.. Take it slow...

Not to sound like a dick, but when you mess up your shoulder to the degree you have, it will NEVER be the same. Knees are the same way.

I had ligaments torn 6 years ago- no biggie, didn't even need a sling- and I still feel soreness at times.

I've had complete reconstructive shoulder surgery on both of my shoulders. My left one was cut on last August. Snuka was right in saying that it will never be the same, but it can be pretty close. My right shoulder has been fine since the surgery 7 years ago, but it isn't as strong as before. Rehab is the key. Make certain you go to a therapist for the first few weeks at least. It will help a lot. I could start lifting at about 2 months, but my recovery was faster than usual. 8 months later, I'm right back where I was as far as strength is concerned. My range of motion is not 100% yet and I cannot do lifting excercises over my head, such as military. Make sure you don't start your gear back until you are recovered or you will be right back where you started. Good luck!

Thanks! We're going to be bigger and better next season!

I am getting ready to have the same thing done. I think your Doc. is being a little generous. Everyone that I talked to said it would be 5-6 weeks in a sling alone, and 6-10 months of recovery time! I have been to three different doctors also. They all said the same.
