Shoulder Questions

Two things:

1. When doing seated db shoulder press, how low should you lower the DB's and should you arch your back at all? I see alot of people sitting there and arching their back, I cant help but think this involved more upper chest and front delt?

2. I did the "Delt Triad" circuit routine a few days ago, yeah its alright but I find after laterals I can barely get any front raises and then I can get loads of db presses so I need to use differant weight, now I was thinking of changing it up a bit and doing this:

Seated DB Press x 12
Wide Grip Upright Row x 10
Two Arm Cable Laterals x 15

I just wondered if anyone else knew any good shoulder circuit workouts?

btw the Delt Triad is this:

Lateral Raises x 12-15
Front Raises x 12-15
Seated DB Press x 12-15

all with the same set of DB's and no rest between, circuit done 3 times total...

yeah u need to keep that back straight.. im pretty positive that like you said it activates more chest.. this is a shoulder lift, if ur including the chest your just braggin about weight in my book

it works chest when you arch your back, kinda like a "really inclined bench press". use less weight, try behind the neck military presses (barbell or smith machine). you will use less weight but it will hit your shoulders alot more. unless you have rotator cuff problems, youll be fine, cuz i know alot of people that dont do behind the neck presses cuz they believe it injures their shoulder/rotator cuff

Hey Nomak would DB Military (good form), and BB military behind the neck be 2 solid shoulder exercises?

Yeah bro I used to do behind the neck presses loads they really burn up your shoulders. Those two you mensioned are my two favourite exercises for shoulders...

I switch between, seated behind the neck press, seated hammer strength presses and standing pressess with db's. i wouldnt do both in one workout, but ever since ive start doing behind the neck presses, ive gotten better results. like i said, i use alot less weight then when i do shoulder press to the front but the behind the neck version hits my front and side delt hard. the only thing with seated db pressess or standing db military presses is swinging the weight up.

I think it depends if when you are doing the seated presses if you are leaning back against a bench. Leaning back and arching might work the chest a bit more.
But if you are sitting up straight without using a bench for support, I think you almost have to arch your back slightly to get your scapula in proper position. I prefer doing them without leaning back against a bench because it helps strengthen the stabilizer muscles as well because you really have to concentrate on controlling the weight to keep good form.

OK, well I thinkIm gonna have BB Behind the neck presses as my #1 shoulder workout. Then Ill do DB military after that, or standing DB presses. Thanks bro

Personally i arch my back. Then again i am lifting for strength and not trying to isolate my shoulders just do the reps. I think at this point EM you might want to not worry about isolation since you are still building your frame.

So lean back and use more weight? Right now I have two heavy movements on both my lifting sessions, workout A has heavy squats, deads and flat bench, Workout B has heavy bb military and heavy pendlays, each are followed by a lighter assistance lift, for example, close grip bench 2x8, romanian dead 2x8, 1 arm row 2x10. After my heavy shoulder presses last time I did the delt triad circuit routine felt a good burn but had problems using the same weight all the way through, was too heavy fro front raises and too light for presses, I was mainly looking for something to sub in instead of that circuit...
