Shoulder presses...BAR OR DUMBELLS

I know to each his own. Id like to hear which everyone prefers and why. I am a fan of dumbells because i feel less pressure in my front delts and am able to press more weight. I also feel much more stimulus in my entire delt. I do them both seated and standing. I sit on the very heavy last set which im pressing 90s
 
I Stick with bars myself, but with dumbbells you're working the stabilizing muscles moreso. Switch it up, and i bet your bar presses go up.
 
I have dropped BTN presses for good. I dropped the bar too low and was sidelined from most upper body lifting for a month. I did read shortly after that with BTN presses, the bar should never drop below your ears to aid in preventing injurys like the one I gave myself.

Strong to be able to muscle around 225 like that though. Very poor form on an Olympic style lift... not many people in the gym do it properly anyway.

Yep. Looked more like a sloppy upright row to a press. My lats are too tight to do a proper clean. Sucks, because I like doing them and I get a lot stronger overall when I do do them. Just a little more time on the foam roller is all.

I'm going out on a limb on this one though and disagreeing w/ you guys about that youtube clip. Though definitely not an 'olympic' clean, not a jerk, and not a push press, I think they're fine presses. He's putting up good weight, not doing that "lean back" thing and using his chest, and he's bringing it down nice and deep to the clavicle for each strict rep.
 
Seated Smith and DB. I don't like BB pressing as I have an old injury related sticking point that seriously limits the weight I can use with strict pressing... with DBs or the smith I dont need to recruit the problem muscle group as much so I can lift a lot more (and put more stress on the muscles I want to target)

Standing pressing isnt something I have much use for, but if you're into functional strength then it would be the best bet
 
the guy doing those is a 260lb jnr nationals champ who's trained by Dante (DC), his clean form might not be the besterest but he's not lacking in the shoulder department :p
 
the clip show a good way of working the shoulders not meant for the best clip ever but gives an idea of what they are. and is in no way bad as far as him hurting himself.

if U can find a better clip put it up please.. I looked for a while and was the best i could find.
 
ok. i went off a little because it was being called a "clean" lol... i agree with that "lift" a version of a muscle-power clean of sorts and press would not doubt be beneficial for delts and upper back development.

Actually i may be doing them soon cuz i can't pull from the floor. I'm glad this was brought up :)

260lber?! No wonder it looks like 95lbs being thrown around. Good for him, strong mofo.

And I bet he is not locking out on most of those because his elbows are toast.......often, stopping short of lock-out is actually a better workout.
 
well honestly, when I saw someone rip the clip, I hadn't seen it and figured it was some chump pressing from nose level w/ a nice back bend. LoL Taking 225 down to the clavicle for smooth controlled reps is uncommon.
 
I like BB because its easier to add weight in increments plus our gym only has DB up to 120 right now.
