shoulder pain need help

Hello..I've been having a moderate shoulder pain for approx. the past 6 weeks or so. It all started while flat benching. Just felt like i tweaked something so i kept lifting heavy for another 6-8 weeks. After this time, it got really sore to where i could barely even lift anymore. I took off a week from the gym only to return and have it hurt again. I had enough then went to an ortho spec. and he did XraYS and some mobility tests. He said he was sure it wasnt rotator cuff but just an aggravated/imflamed shoulder from all the heavy lifting and not letting it heal. So my question is.. after a cortisone shot and a bottle of Naproxen it still hurts. MRI? I love to lift and am getting depressed cuz i havent been able to lift right for over 2 months.

THe pain feels like where my trap ties into the shoulder area. It goes up the trap..feels like right on the bone, and sometimes feels like my rear delt area too.
I'm still really strong, but have pain when doing shoulder presses, dumbell pressed, incline hammer strength and some other shoulder work including lateral raises. Has anyone had something similiar to this and had it heal on its own? I'm just not wanting to end up having surgery..i've heard a lot of horror stories.

Thanks for any opinions :)

I wish I had a solution to your problem, as I am suffering as well.
Any benching, side raises, and cheat curls are painfull.
I can behind the neck press no problem.
Pain moves from front to back, and down into the bicep. I have full mobility almost always. Sometimes I wake up and my whole right arm is frozen, and I have to use my left arm to get it started moving again.
I have a push-pull meet coming up in November. After that I'll have a doctor look at it.

I've had shoulder pain off and on for 18 years. Up untill now it's always gone away on it's own.

You have to rest for as long as it takes. Stop ALL pressing for a month. Doploads of shoulder flexability work, and kill your rear delts for the entire time you lay off pressing. Rear Delts need to be stronger most likely.

I had a problem in the lateral aspect of my shoulder...nothing helped. Cortisone, rest, Naprosin , ultrasound. then I tried voltaren an antiinflamatory and within 10 days the pain was gone. I never had an mri or anything so I don't know if there is structual damage..but no pain.

I think I'll pass on that option for now:

I DID have an MRI on my L/ Shoulder...180 degree tear of the labrum, AC joint rubbing together on top, inflammation all around....did the cortizone shot, first one didn't work...2nd one (one month later) did perfect....however, don't get too many, it will DISINTEGRATE your shoulder joint!! Also, DEEP TRIGGER POINT MASSAGE.... IR tissue treatment, electrical stimulation...for a MINIMUM of a month....and THEN start working your rear delts, and using exercises that don't aggravate.....No more Dips, man...not for a while.

I went to DUMBELL Bench (incline and flat, hands turned IN) with no problems....weight slowly going up.... No more kettlebell snatches or benches OVER 225 still for me ( I did 3 reps the other day, after 2 months off...no worries) .... But if you cheat, and you do it...you could be FUBAR forever.

Lots of MOBILITY exercises ...I got a DVD by Brett Jones called "Secrets of the shoulder"...it has done WONDERS for me....i think dragondoor has it (big kettlebell site).

Best of luck! Don'T use it and you won't loose it!!!

The dreaded shoulder injury...

This is the same reason i have been MIA for 2 months....

Story:
Was getting ready for competitiiom, was doing some board presses with a bunch of guys from my gym. I tweaked something on my 4th rep and it never felt the same.

I got Exrays & 2 MRI's.

The findings in the second MRI showed i had a cyst on the Humeral Head in my shoulder. Also found Mild Supraspinatus tendinosis without Focal Tendon Tear. The Remaining rotator cuff is normal. I also have minimal fluid in the Subscapularis Bursa.

So if you seriously are hurting get the MRI's.

I couldnt even wipe my own ass for month...
I couldnt sleep because of the pain, and no sleep = no healing. Ibuprofen was not enough to keep the swelling down.

So i did the best decision i ever made; I took the Entire Summer off from lifting. No Squating, No Benching, No Deadlifting, Nothing.

Now im back in the gym for the second week, my Squat is still near my last squat numbers...

My Bench; ahh lets not go there, im not benching yet, just massive amounts of reps with light weight to get bloodflow into my shoulder and try to break up some scar tissue and calcium deposits.

What i DID start doing was Taking Osteo Biflex something, for joint health... Here is a picture of it (click link its going to amazon)
