Shooting pain lower back

cure

New member
This is the second time this has happened in the last 2 years. I'm working my way up to my working set weight in squats and when i go down lower then parallel my back gives out. I am able to re-rack the weight but from there my workout is over and i'm out of commission from the gym for at least 3 days. Thing is, my music was up too loud to hear if there was any popping noise. This never ever happens when deadlifting at heavy weights, during military presses, snatches etc etc..just squats...i might of bounced at the bottom of the movement. Has this ever happened to anyone? It's a shooting pain in my lower back that i also feel in my hips and the front upper quads.

Any time you have shooting pain down through the hips there is a very, very high chance that there is a disc injury. Hopefully for you this is only a bulging disc and will go back into place with rest, and not a fully ruptured disc. I would be very, very cautious about allowing that to happen anymore, if it isnt ruptured now, it could easily eventually get to the point of a full rupture, and that usually means surgery. Best of luck to you bro.

Lower back pain is just a part of being human, and usually doesn't mean you have seriously hurt yourself UNLESS:

You have pain shooting down your legs

You get tingling, pins and needle sensations

You have difficulting urinating or defacating

I would highly recommend you see a physiotherapist.

If you plan on having a long life of lifting, getting bodywork done is an essential IMHO.

Having a sports massage therapist, a good physio is priceless.

I have two. One is local, the other works with dealing with imbalances, injury rehab and postural issues (which a lot of people have) which can result in injuries.

I haven't seen a chiropracter in AGES, they may be of some use as well.
