for shaving the bikini area, how do u ladies usually go about getting the smoothest closest shave? right now i shave but it seems to grow back fairly quick (i have stubble later on in the day ) and if i shave over it again i get the red bumps and irritation. also after shaving in the shower i rub on some hydrocortisone to get rid of some irritation but i cant seem to get a really close smooth shave. minus going to a bikini wax, any suggestions?

Wax. Or there is a reason why God made boy-cut bathing suit bottoms :)

absolutely nothing but i'm just wondering the best way to shave using a razor..it just seems to be more convenient for me to just do it in the shower.
Use a Venus razor and buy the shaving creme especially for your bikini area or extra sensitive.

There's a lotion available at Shoppers Drug Mart called "Bikini Zone", you apply it right after shaving, and a few more times during the day. I find it really helps to eliminate any red bumps, and also, seems to slow growth.

But, if I shave again too soon, it still gets irritated, not sure what to do about that...

Is anyone shaving every day?

Nah depends on how single I am very single once every two weeks not so single once a week.

wow how can u get away with shaving once a week? i would be so hairy by then haha. i usually shave once a day although i would like to do it once every other day, but the damn hair grows back too fast!! :worried:

Ha ha! That's exactly me! Well except for the single part...it's more like if I'm seeing my honey then I'm nice and clean shaved, but when I'm at home in Canada it just don't matter how often or not I shave!

I, unfortunately, haven't found anything that works for me....

It may be the heat/humidity, but this summer I've gotten bumps/razor burn no matter what I do.....ugh...

I just use Bikini Nair but I don't do it that often...hubby doesn't seem to care much either way, but I do trim it ALOT.....

Ouch, i hate that. My only advice, get a brazilian wax!!

By the way... the oil last super long!!!! All you use is a couple of drops! Try it... you never know if you don't try!

I just shave every day in the shower. a quick job usually, and every few days a more thorough one. i have sensitive skin but shaving doesn't bother me anymore- get a good razor and like everyone says, try a bikini lotion or oil.
btw, for those that wax- i want to, but don't you have to let it grow before you can wax? i don't want to.

For waxing the growth doesn't have to be really long just enough so the wax can grab.....

My legs now take about 6 months to grow in long enough for another wax........

Bikini area I use to do that before Kids, and it would take about 2 months, when I started a week growth was fine....

Wow, how long have you been waxing?

I've been waxing for about 4-5 years. I can go six weeks before I need a bikini wax again. About 8 weeks before I need my arpits, legs and arms waxed again. It use to be that I could only go about 2 weeks before I'd need waxing again.

I would love if I could go 6 months without waxing. I'm assuming, like with me, over time you have been able to go longer periods of time without waxing. Which is why I'm curious as to how long you've been waxing. :)

Either way, that's a long time......I got sick of going for waxing every 3 weeks, so gave it up...

Tried shaving today using conditioner...so far so good....

I wax all the hair on my body except my eyebrows, eyelashes and hair on my head. I can not stand body hair. I would shave but my skin is ultra sensitive. Razors burn me. I also get really bad ingrown hairs.

I've been waxing my legs on and off for 10 years....started doing it when my leg hair started to turn black when I was 16...

I got tired of shaving two-three times a week so I switched to waxing about three years ago. Between the time I save in the shower, the cost of special lotions and shave creams and the annoying red bumps the day after, getting the area waxed is so worth the money. And yes, over the last year I've noticed that I don't have to go in as often as I used to. :) Wax is so cool.

But, it hurts like hell! Maybe I'm more sensitive, but my bikini line was sooooo painful I gave up...didn't get any easier it seems. Those are some THICK roots man! Went back to the razor...more convenient and NO PAIN!!!! Just wish it didn't grow in so quick.

Yep, when I had my bikini are waxed -- did that & my underarms for about a year -- the hair never grew in any less or any lighter & I still had to go every 3 weeks or so......what was most annoying was in the summer having hairy pits till I could get them waxed again....yuck!!

I know that's what would happen to me so I just shave pretty much every day. I don't get rashy often. I like the venus razor and either skintimate shave gell or baby oil.

If I had the money I would get everythinng lasered. I got a quote for my lip and chin and am probably going to end up getting that done. After that laser one area at a time tell I am hair free.

Laser works best on dark hair. If I'm gonna get mine done I better do it soon. I found my first grey eyebrow hair not long ago. Yanked that sucker right out! LOL

My hair is pretty light colored.....pits & crotch are darker but leg hair is blonde....I may look into the laser thing as well

After I ask about Botox!! I have a wrinkle right in between my eyebrows!!!!!!! Eeek!!!

I had no probs after shaving using the conditioner instead of soap, etc......I have a ton of those tubes of conditioner that come with hair color....so I'm going to use that for a while....

so ya'll think hair conditioner would work better than shaving cream? right now i'm using skintimate for sensitive skin.

RE: Waxing pain

A lot of it has to do with your waxer's technique. The pain can be greatly minimized if your waxer puts pressure on the waxed area for a few seconds immmediately after ripping the hair out. This seems to calm down the nerves. For areas where the skin is stretchy, the waxer should instruct you to pull the area taut before she rips.

Also, after getting an area waxed a few times, it seems to hurt less and less. The first few times are the worst. Taking some Motrin beforehand can help.

Yep, this really helped me.....plus she chatted the whole time, so that distracted me....

Where did you get it done every where?

I've done laser hair removal on my legs, toes, underarms, and entire bikini area. Except for the hair on my head, I'm basically hairless now.

I want to get it done on my lip and chin. How was the pain? How many laser treatments did you need? When you say entire bikini do you mean brazilian style?

how expensive was that?? and how long did it take?

It's a little pricey at first but in the long run it is cheaper because I don't spend money on waxing and shaving gels.

I started doing it when it first became available a few years ago. I had a treatment whenever the hair started to come back and I had the funds. I've just been consistant with it so I've had success.

Where I go, you couldget your lip done for about $30.00, legs $200.00, underarms $75.00, bikini is around $125.00. I've heard it takes more treatments for the face though.

I do the entire bikini area....zero hair anywhere. It is a little painful but the nurse is cool and numbs the area with ice packs. There are also numbing creams you can buy to help.

Being consistentisthe key...even if you only go when you can afford it. I used to shave my legs EVERDAY- twice if I was going out. All the hair is basically gone. I have touch-up treatments on my legs for the little regrowth but that is once every 1-2 years.

Wow that is awsome Starfish love the idea of no hair. I got qouted here on lip and chin $150 per treatment and I would need 6 for premant removal. My hair growth is mostly blonde except for my under arms and bikini area.
