Sergio Oliva Today, His Visa TV Commercial

I agree; time passes and our bodies become weaker and weaker. But heck, my dad, a rather athletic guy who works out once in a while, looks better than him at his age. He looks like he doesn't even care anymore - like something that was once his passion entirely evaporated into the blue. When I said that it's sad, I didn't mean it in the sense of 'well, he just sucks', but really in a 'sad' sense. But hey, I don't know the whole story so maybe I shouldn't be talking.

That's good for your dad. :)

However I feel that maybe Olivia's body has worn down from the demands he put on it getting to that level. Maybe he has severe arthritis or has really weak tendons, bad back. Who knows? I mean look @ most ex nfl players and the majority are broken down physically. Just throwing that out there as a possible alternative to "he just stopped caring".

WOW!!!
That sucked. He was a 3 time Mr. O winner, beating Arnold once. They totally played up his loss to Arnold in '72 as to why he's a nobody.
Too funny it a sick way.

The ad company people -didn't tell- Sergio what that last comment was gonna be! They chose the weight for him to use. If you look at this clip from a slightly different perspective, Sergio's got a darn good life. I'd have ended with: "Coming in 2nd isn't so bad." Sergio is 64 in this clip, and can still kick much ass. 6 months of dieting and lifting, and he'd be one of the best built men in world all over again, perhaps -the- best for his age group. He was -cheated- out of the crown in '72, in '71 he -beat- Arnold for the same title, and in '70, he won -unopposed-. This means the whole world, including Arnold , didn't think they even had a -chance-. I saw Sergio in his custom tailored police uniform in 1983. Granted, he was "only" 42 but he looked ready to win the 'O' title all over again. Another case of a so-called "has-been" under scrutiny by the multitude of "never-was-es". The internet strikes again.
You're dates are wrong, but your point is right on.

He was shot in the stomach by his wife with his own police issued sidearm, while (or soon after) beating her.
He was never able to train legs the same after that.

I see. Like I said, sometimes life gets in the way and it's not as simple as someone letting themselves go.

Well, if someone offered me a big check to say I came in second to the great Arnold, I'd take the money big time!

+1

Even the great Arnold will be weaker, and appear broken down some day - I think not too long from now. This is the fate of all that age and eventually die. No one, especially Arnold would deny this mans former greatness. And in the minds of real fans...he will be remembered for that long after he is dead and buried. Props to the man, for to still be in here swinging...no matter how light the bat has to be!

Agreed. Good post.

P.S. Arnold looks worse that him right now.

I got Sergio's autograph at the '93 Mr. O. That was after his wife plugged him. He still looked fairly buff, considering.
