saw palmetto does nothing for the prostate

prostate enlargement and urinary tract symptoms of frequent urination, incontience(peeing when you don't want to) and difficulty urinating, seem to be a right of passage into the old age.some bodybuilders who take anabolic steriods develop enlarged prostates in there 20's and 30"s.fifty percent of men have the problem by age 50 and the incidence increases with age. many men take saw palmetto supplements to prevent prostate problems or to shrink enlarge prostates. researchers from the university of california, san francsico medical school, led by stephen bent, found that patients who took saw palmetto(160 miligrams twice a day) for 12 months showed no improvement in symptoms of prostate enlargemnt compared to patients taking a placebo. obesity is a leading risk factor for prostate enlargement and it may interact with estrogen to make the predicament worse. overweight, anabolic steriod users convert some of the hormone to estrogen, which may place them at risk for prostate enlargement. higher levels of blood testosterone in older men decrease the risk of prostate problems. obesity tiggers insulin release. insulin is powerful anabolic hormone that can stimulate prostate growth. reduce the risk of prostate cancer by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, drinking alcohol moderately(1 to 2 drinks daily)and eating a low-fat diet high in antioxidants(plenty of fruits and vegetables).

Finasteride and/or Dutasteride is the way to go. Saw palmetto sucks.!!!!!!!

the ones that disagree its not my study i just posted it. i just found it interesting that there can be studies on the same supplement that prove to be different, yes or no who to believe

If you worked in research to any extent you will see very quickly that most experiments say what the researcher wants it to say. I'm not saying that this is the case here but many times individuals or (groups) have a certain point set in their mind that they are going to prove or disprove and then they reveal the statistics that do so while not mentioning other areas that may be in opposition. Take this saying for example, "The average human has one breast and one testicle." While it is certainly true it does not represent the "truth"!

There are loads of sayings concerning stats, here are just a few of them:

Statistics can be made to prove anything - even the truth.

There are three kinds of lies - lies, damned lies and statistics.

Statistics are like women; mirrors of purest virtue and truth, or like whores to use as one pleases.

Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.

probaly large doses of saw palmetto and other herbs could make a little difference...what people can't understand is: medics don't believe in alternative medicine; they don't believe in nutrition, vitamins, herbs nothing; they just think we are a degenerated specimne by perse and their mission is to fix us with surgeries and medications that at the end are dangerous for another organ. Alternative medicine WORKS; i.e. herbs, minerals, vitamins, BUT they are not intended to fix; they are made to maintain a healthy body and to prevent degeneration for future generations; that means if you have an enlarged prostate, of course you are not gonna fix it with a cap of saw palmetto; that prostate is already degenerated 1) by genetics from ancestors and 2) by external chemicals in the body. The only way to fix it is with other chemicals that at the same time will mess your liver function and other things.

hmmm. Prostate problems can be a pain in the butt (pun intended) . As for saw palmetto having an effect on the prostate,,,there have been studies both ways (yes statistics can proove anything you want to proove) . I have talked to 3-4 people in a health care setting on their experiences on saw palmetto......one decided to use saw palmetto because he did not like the side effect from finasteride he said he was tired and lethargic when on Proscar. Another one was said he had some relief of symptoms, while one said it did not work because his symptoms increased. BPH can get to the point that they have to have surgery(lots of sexual dysfunction after that), or straight cath themselves to urinate, now with the baby boomers hitting late 50's early 60's there will be an increase in the incidence seen(along with everything else).

Prostate cancer is a big issue,,one person i had had bone metastsis from prostate cancer. from his imaging results it seemed to be everywhere. PSA WAS AROUND 560. this was in feb, he is no longer living.

hmm, i just started taking a supp called prostata response, it has ginger, saw, pygeum african bark and a ton of other stuff, the YES was irritating my prostate cause im so sensitive to caffiene and stimulants. this shit straightened me out in a day and a half. good stuff.

piss on that study, literally :)hheheheheheheh

Oh jeez you guy are waaaaay off. It's not the saw palmatto or the finistride or even the anti-estrogens that are good for your prostate.

I'll tell what's good for your prostrate and I have the "hands on" research to prove it. It's MASTERBATION !!! And I'm the world's foremost expert on it too. HAHAHAHA
