Carl Cox is the f#$king man! Last time I heard him was at Ultra in Miami. Get his cd called Carl Cox Live at Crobar, its like those old bootleg tapes you would get from concerts.
The Florida Funk! What a joke that is. You are right! it is nothing like it and Paul Oakenfold or Carl Cox probably wouldn't be caught dead with a piece of that Florida crap in their crates. I am sorry but I have been a professional "night club" dj in the USA for about 7 years and Florida funk has got to be some of the cheesiest garbage on the planet!
First of all, all they do is "steal" a drum loop from some old song and put an out of key vocal on top of it! Second, the majority of it is half-assed produced in peoples bedrooms on a 486 computer and Acid (a music program for those who don't know).
As far as I am concerned one of the only Florida breaks prodicers deserving of credit is Icee. I used to hate his stuff but his production in the past year or two has really gotten way better. He is a very talented producer.
I had a copy of Acid on my old computer and didn't like it very much. I like mixing songs on my computer but only because I can't affoard to do the real thing....Oakenfold was very impressive when I heard him a few months back. The only time I've seen a crowd of 30,000+ people was at a few rocket basketball games during their 2 championship runs in the mid 90's
TxCollegeguy- lemme know if you want to go to any raves at the music hall, i work there. besides, you'd be amazed the amount of free goods you can get if ya know the right people

Don't get me wrong, Acid is a great program that is blowing people away nowadays. It is just that there is so much more that can be done with music no and these guys are just busy trying to steal other people's tracks and redo them hehemmm (djX). If the Florida funk scene would stop and take a look at what is coming out of our state and compare to what was being produced 10 years ago, they sound identical! Funksters!! get out of the early 90's freestyle era! It is not cool anymore, stevie B is an old man now! and so is his music!

True. . . but for Techno and House music the skill comes from knowing how to tweak your samplers and synthesizers.
I just stick to dNb. . . sweet, sweet or nasty, nasty bass and those chopped up breakbeats that keep surprising you and the beat goes BOOM BOOM boom BOOM boom instead of BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM. . . to each their own
