i changed from vag-wootoom-str8bino with no problem
but when i went from str8bino-bino the problems started
i wonder if bino was an account created in 2001 and i just happened to guess the right password?

There appear to be two seperate Bino accounts. I have no idea how you did that, but you've defaulted to the 2001 Bino account, while the 2008 Bino account has your posts, karma, PMs and such. What'd you do between yesterday and today for this to happen?

This is what we keep trying to tell you, dammit. You don't have to guess the right password -- the old account has long since been inactive and, for whatever reason, vBulletin gets kind of confused. This is what happens every single time, lol.

And when you dropped the "str8" portion of the username, the remainder just happened to be an account created back in 2001. vBulletin doesn't know what to do with two identical account names, so it kind of glitches or whatever.

Each time a person changes their name, a new username is created in the database. This name must not already exist for the name change to properly work.

Both Bino accounts are showing up as Platinum right now. However, mods don't have access to any personal account information, so you'll have to ask BRR or Frank to see if the information transferred.

100% agreed. They should take the feature away from everyone and not just us...or give it back, one of the two.

i've never ever had a problem in 5+ yrs of constant name changing
but, if it is such a problem, why is this a feature available to all

Probably for people that actually want to use the feature and not just constantly switch names over and over again for the fun of it. It was never intended as a toy, but rather for those who might decide to change their account name for whatever reason.

Supposedly there's a vBulletin upgrade coming, so maybe that will fix the glitch.

Go to "Your Account" in the upper right hand corner. Key in your user name and password, and you'll see a link to change your username/e-mail. Key in your new info and viola!

Wait... you're worried about your CC info and stuff, but you're gonna keep doing it? What the fuck, dude.

I know it's an option that comes with paid plat memberships and stuff, but dude, just because the option exists doesn't mean you gotta keep fucking with it after you know it's causing problems.

Take the hint seriously from the guy who's already cleaned up your account and personal information for you -- he might not be so willing to do it again. Or they might just shut off the whole name-changing option for everyone if one or two people continue to fuck with it purely to spite.

BRR's already mentioned upcoming vBul upgrades and stuff. Give 'em some time to work the glitches out.

Wootoom's not the only guy who has a say in the matter.

There are a LOT of good names tied up by one-time visitors. If I had my way, we'd be auctioning those off -- some of them are prime quality -- but the fact remains they ARE taken, and when you try to poach one without checking first, it breaks stuff.

You don't have to "respectfully" refrain (spit!) -- you can whine and sulk all you want. But we gotta make sure the name's really available. Period, full stop. This Means You. Stop DOING it without checking with me first. That's not a request.
