Ruptured Achilles

We'll my plans for the next 6 months to a year have been interrupted a bit. I blew out my Achilles this weekend. Surgery will sometime this week.

I had been planing my first cycle (Test E 400mg per wk), 12 weeks. However, this obviously doesn't make sense now.

So, I'm thinking that I'll continue upper body work and still be able to do leg extensions but that's about it. Squats and deads are done.

After surgery, I was thinking of running Anavar @ 50mgs ED for 8 weeks plus Dermacrine for 8 weeks. Sustain and Nolva for PCT.

I've read that Anavar is very good for collagen synthesis.

What are your thoughts? Anybody been through this?

I ruptured my achilles and had it surgically repaired.

This is what I would recommend:

- keep moving as the issue with healing the achilles is that it doesn't get a lot of blood flow

- cissus quadralangaris

- supplement with copper and zinc, these are co-factors with metallurginases

- get a good physiotherapist, if you think the 8 weeks of being in a cast sucks, the hard work starts when you get out of it

I don't know about taking gear, it causes more muscle growth than tendon growth, and the problem with this is that the muscle will get stronger than the tendon, and your achilles is going to be shortened.

You don't want to risk rupture again while it is lengthening.

How did you do it?

Thanks for the response. I did it playing football, no one touched me. I just pushed off to run and heard the "pop." I'm looking at anavar spicifically due to it's collegon building properties.

I'm fully expecting a very tough rehab. How did you do yours?

I think you can see the scar in my siggie pic a wee bit.

Mine was due to a motorcycle crash. Yes I was riding the bike, a car side swiped me.

I am going to tell you the bad news then.

If your achilles popped in that manner, then you are at a greater risk of

- snapping the other one while training

- having the repaired one rupture again

I found that rehab was far more psychological than actually physically difficult, it just requires patience.

Like I have said, the real healing happens when you get out of the cast, and you will not be able to put your foot flat on the floor, nor will it seem possible.

I spent a further month and a half on crutches once I was out of the cast, then used one crutch for walking distances for another two or three weeks.

To have the courage to run again was really tough, that was another 2 months.

I could still feel all sorts of odd things training for at least 6 months, I couldn't fully squat and leg press also pulled on my calf in an odd way.

Oh yes, expect some of the most paralysing muscle spasms in your calf when the cast comes off and you start moving your foot again.

I have just really started to hit what I had been using when training calves, again some of this was psychological.

I would really avoid ANY steroids that have a negative impact on tendons. Make sure that anavar DOES really build collagen in tendons.

You also want to get heel inserts/achilles heel cups-arch supports to use for the first six months or so.

Hey There 2evel!

I am in the same boat -- blew my Achilles last Thursday, playing tennis of all things. This brings me to two questions to all of the combined intelligence of this forum:
1. I am new in London, and don't know how to find a good doctor. Can someone recommend a good orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in Achilles? The emergency room referred me to someone who is an acclaimed spine surgeon. Achilles is certainly not as complex as spine surgeries, but I'd want someone who does at least a dozen Achilles' a year. I'll be paying for this privately, so hospital affiliation does not matter.

2. This is the 3rd tendon I tore in just a couple of years - my AC in the shoulder playing ice hockey, and on in my middle finger (need to muster some courage to say this --- making my bed). I'm 36 - does this point to a widespread condition in my body - is this hormonal or some other kind of disbalance? What can I do w/r to supplements, hormones, anything else to ensure this does not continue to happen?

Thanks to all!

I hope you get some answers. I'm 34 and this is the first tendon I've torn. My Ortho said that it would be good to do the surgery this week, so we're doing it Friday.

This really sucks but hang in there!

I think people rupture their achilles far more frequently than most realise, I would think that most orthpaedic surgeons would have done a number of surgeries each year.

I mentioned a few supps in the first post:

- cissus quadralangaris

- vitamin C is essential in collagen synthesis (smoking, drinking and caffeine destroy vitamin C)

- amino acid lysine

- maganese, copper and boron are co-factors for the enzymes in collagen synthesis

- collagen

Tatyana, Thanks for the valuable advice and support. Sposiba za podderzhku.

2evil -- will definitely know what I find out. So far the vibe I'm getting from the doctors is that it's time to slow down...

best of luck to your sugery. I think ANAVAR would be a good option for you.

Thanks Alin. I'm thinking 40mg ED for 8 weeks followed by sustain and nolva for 4 weeks. Hopefully it will help wasting as well.

Your calf will waste no matter what you do.

If you get out and about on your crutches, you will get bigger.

I was in and out of London 1-2 days a week, with a 10-15 kg pack on my back.

It did wonders for my upper body.

I definately will stay active.

Surgery tomorrow morning. Just finished my flat and incline bench and shrugs. We'll see how I feel after tomorrow but I'm thinking back and bi's Sunday. I know, I'm pushing...

Hey! How did you end up man? I'm just starting to get back on my foot. I went the non-surgical route. I'm actually thinking of doing some var pretty soon.

i ruptured my achilles tendon on 28 March. Im still in a cast. it was surgically repaired 3 days after the rupture.
even though my surgeon said that the tendon will always stay a weak point, i know this to be not true. i have asked advice from 4 different kinisi therapists, and they all agree that after proper revalidation (rehab) the ruptured tendon should be actually stronger due to added scar tissue.

the real challenge is the revalidation. i start mine in 3 weeks and 1 day. im not scared of the pain, just that i would go to fast (as always) and rupture it again....

i didnt break it in sport (that wouldnt have happened i think) - it was more like a freak accident (i was very drunk i tried to move something by shoving it with the tip of my foot - and that something didnt move as it was stuck .. i used excessive force and snapped the tendon..i know its silly, but we all do silly things i guess)

i dont know about anavar, i but i do know that growth hormone is the only thing that is certified to make tendons stronger. downside is that it's so f****ing expensive

does anyone have some good ideas for the rehab?

by the way, im starting a cycle right after i exit the cast. its only for the upper body (naturally) but if never been huge fan of a lot of leg workouts - i feel that legs are better trained by running, running with small sprints etc ie interval training.

good luck to all
