this reminds me of a "mid-life crisis" or "sexual addiction." there is no such thing. people throw around these terms as an excuse to act out as if their bad behavoir is out of their control.
Its always nice to here somebody who is about 20 years away from 'mid life' discuss what he knows nothing about.
If you define yourself by standards or benchmarks that you have achieved, or, conversely, will never achieve, and realize that you are looking at the remainder of your life as being locked into either of those mindsets without hope of a way out.... the you are in a very emotionally unstable area.
With that in mind, 'mid life crisis' things happen: you find yourself desperate to experience things that are removed from your current life style. In the extreme these things range from the life long law abiding citizen commiting serious crimes, the until recently happily married going out and harpooning any thing that will say yes (or no, see example one), taking copious amounts of happy valley magic dust or sudden onset of heavy drinking, sedentary folks becoming fitness oriented to the point of neglecting other aspects of their lives, the timid becoming extreme sports freaks or loudmouthed neo conservative sheeple asswipes....
All this happens, a lot. Its not a 'term' people just throw around, and to imply such shows instantly that you havent taken the time to look into this, to ask, to learn. THAT makes you a Grade A USDA Bonehead, but its possible to reverse your accute case of malignant boneheadus carcinoma. You just have to learn that just because you don't dont 'get' it, doesnt mean it isn't so.
