why do people get married.


for me, marriage is just the church & state saying 'we recognize that you are married'. all it does is give the government the right to control your life.


for example, if things aren't going right, the gov decides if you can split up, and if/when you can see your kids & sig. other afterwards. why go through that just to be considered valid in the eyes of the church & state. it just seems like something to avoid. to have an authority figure say 'we will recognize your union, but you have to let us determine if/when you can see your family'. is this socialization, the willingness to give up freedoms to be recognized as valid by authority figures

And contrary to your train of thought the government does just about whatever it pleases with you regardless of whether you are single or married.

true, very true. however the statutes are different state to state. indiana doesn't have common law marriages, some states have 6 year terms, etc.

but why bother. is it just tradition or what. if you don't get married some judge who works in a legal system that has been bent to be feminazi in nature can determine if/when you get to see yoru kids.

one of the main complaints of abused husbands is that they are afraid if they get divorced, that the wife will get custody of the kids because the court system is biased in favor of women. so they stay in abusive relationships. i don't know much about the legal system, but if he/she didn't get married to begin with then they wouldn't have to worry about that, i don't think'

my train of thought is basically, why is tradition & recognizition by authority figures more important than your relationship with your family.

I did know someone that wasn't married but he had a girlfriend that for like YEARS and he was able to get on her health coverage and vice versa.

they're called 'starter marriages'. my college is full of them. early 20's people who get married when they graduate HS, stay married until their mid 20's (when their careers take off) then divorce. i guess they don't want to be lonely, who knows.

if anything, that is the WORST time to get married, when you are straight out of high school. guys should get spreading their seed and girls should be checking out the flavors... also, where would such young people get the money to get married anyway? on top of that, what about living situations? I wouldn't want to be living at HOME with my parents, likewise with hers if I was married at an early age.
