Reverse pushups

Kind of like a bodyweight barbell row hanging onto a bar set fairly low in a power rack, the opposite of a pushup, maybe best described as a horizontal pullup. You can put weight on your chest to make it harder, which is probably necessary. Different grips can be used too.

Does it have a proper name? I really enjoy this exercise as I feel I can use much better form than on any barbell row, and I can feel my entire upper back much better than on most back exercises.

Well, without the arch in the back, yes (assuming your t-bar row isn't chest supported). We do it because it's like benching in reverse. We use it as accessory work for lats because it's precisely in the bench plane.

That's awsome!

I can't wait to add these. Since it resembles a row, it would be mostly for thickness, right? I get confused and forget this late at night.:sleep2:

Its exactly the opposite to a bench press, as spatts said. Great exercise. Absolutely love it.

I wouldn't get too caught up about the difference between back thickness and width here. Its going to hit your entire upper back. Varying supination/pronation and width of your grip is going to make sure it does everything you can do in the horizontal plane.

No, I don't add weight...my body weight is MORE than enough! :lmao:

These would be one of those things I might do with a very explosive positive and long, burning negative...just one long set.

For the barbell pushups, we wrap a band around our backs so we have to speed through the push up. The bar is also at sternum height, not chest isolating push up height...so it's actually a tricep move.
