Reverse Grip Cleans?

KOArtist

New member
Yes, I know, it sounds stupid, and I would probably look like I was doing super retard cheat curls. But might this be an effective exercise for a boxer looking to put some power into uppercuts?? After all, cleans are just "cheat hammer curls" in a way (kinda). Any opinions?

If your form is right, they should look nothing like hammer curls(not even kinda) ;) I know what you are saying, but still, i wouldn't even compare it. As for the reverse grip cleans, I wouldn't recommend it.

It would seem to be a good way to hurt your biceps; even if you could do it with proper form and keep your arms straight, I think with the underhand grip, your bis are ready to be pulled with a movement as explosive as a clean.

No. If you want to increase power in your uppercuts then I think you'd probably want to focus more on strengthening your core and lats.

Be specific in your training. You want a stronger upper cut go to the pulley machine. Attach the hand attachment to the low pulley. Stand so your back is towards the pulley.Grab attachment with palm up grip. Procede to do the upper cut movement.

I think med ball under hand throws would be the best bet

single arm and dual arm

use a snatch style form, ie get the legs and hips into .

these are good!! they are called POWER CURLS. A lot of field even athletes do them, shotputters, discus throwers, etc.....

Just curious...have you ever done cleans before? I wouldn't call them just "cheat hammer curls"...not even in a way (kinda).

If they resemble that to you, then you are most likely doing them incorrectly.

Yes Ive done plenty of cleans. Hence the "in a way" and "kinda". Im just looking for the perfect exercise to put some power into my uppercuts. Any suggestions other than regular cleans, etc?

CCJ & Dave-thanks

Dzuljas-Seriously? Care to elaborate (if youre not Fing with me)?
peace

Train specific has been said a few times and it is sound advice. If you want to increase your uppercut power then do it by training uppercuts. There are exercises that will help develop explosive power, but they are no substitute for skill, timing, increased neuro muscular coordination in a given task.

All that being said, you want to do as much explosive total body lifting as possible, ie olympic lifts and plyo's. There should be good carryover from that. As a boxer you might want to get a tornado ball and start using it a lot. It is a great way to develop balance and torso strength which are key elements of a stronger punch.

If you want to work on your uppercut than work on your uppercut.

True. Been doing that for 22 years now though, looking for some new/extra stuff, of course. Been beating up walls w/ the tornado ball for a while now too, lol
