Reverse-grip bench

BOOEY

Banned
When doing reverse-grip bench press, do you use a wide, shoulder or narrow grip? Differences in hitting the tricep heads? Keep in mind this would be done in addition to close-grip bench (regular grip, narrow).

I would recommend a wide grip because it is easier to balance the bar for me. Reverse will also hit your front delts hard, I was at one time stronger at reverse than normal grip bench, go figure? :bigbuck:

I don't think the grip really makes a big difference, just remember to keep your elbows tucked in like all other tricep exercises.

What are you trying to accomplish?

If you cant grow with regular grip bench, you wont grow with reverse.

My advice is find what width is comfortable for you. Due to the nature of the exercise you aren't gaining any extra focus by changing grip width. I like to go a little narrower than my bench grip because it suits me best. Experiment a bit and find what suits you best. My only caviat is that you should stay light while changing grip so as not to hurt yourself.

Cheers,
Scotsman
