reverse band squats

Any of you guys tried this?

What bands did you use?

Did you go down to a box or free squat it. This sounds like a good way to get your body used to a weight you are planning to do in a contest without having to suit up and wrap up for it.

I am thinking about this tomorrow, my Max Effort day.

We rotate rev band squats every couple of weeks either for dynamic day or for ME day. For dynamic day we always use a one inch below parallel box. For ME day we use a very low or high box. We always rotate choked bands, reverse bands and no bands each week.

Hey IrishPower...

I think you can use reverse band squats for either a box squat or a free squat. I think that the very least I would use is a green (medium) band but it may depend on your strength level. Someone squatting around 200 lbs. could probably use a mini-band. The only thing I would caution against is using so much band tension that it pulls you out of your natural squatting groove. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Jimmie Dean and i do them the way he has said, but we have also done them were he was on the box and free squatted. I like both ways. I believe we used blues that day. With blues you can really overload the top big time.

well... we were under some time constraint today. i was not able to try these.

i am going to shoot for them next monday or maybe even this friday for dynamic day.

today, we did close stance good mornings (42.5").
i hit 505 + 200lbs of chain... new PR.

Great lifts man. I am not familiar with chains. I knwo whatthey do and all just dont have them. But that is huge. I was happy to hit a 500 for 3 good morning off chains suspended. But no weight added on the way up.

How often did you say you actually pull? Or did you? We do evey6 weeks or so and i knwo these good AMs gotta be working.

You guys are FREAKS!!! GM's with 500...wow. Just blows me away.

its not as hard as you think when you do them suspended from chains. for me, i think they are right around my deadlift strength. at least they are when i take my deadlift stance and 42.5" from floor.

pljay: i dislike pulling. i have this bar that i bent to shit that i pull off of occasionally. in fact after we did good mornings, i did a set of 5 with 500 with no belt to get used to pulling again. it feels wierd since i havent done it in so long.

i am still waiting for my crain bar. i think chains are cool for preparing you to get a weight. 700 raw weight is gonna be harder than 500 + 200 chains, but the chains are a first step. i think within 6 - 8 weeks i will try 700 real weight on the bar for a good morning then 10 - 12 weeks (meet time) i will be ready for a 700 pull. this is all new to me so i will let you know how it progresses.

Good Mornings as far as I am concerned are number one for a better squat and dead regardless of what training you do, I have done 500 without much training with them, I feel 600 and 700 will happen even though I am not as young as most of you, train this movement hard because you cannot squat without a strong torso.

I am new to WS. Could someone tell me how a reverse band
squat works? And how to setup for it? Sounds like something
I should work into my routine.

Thanks,

Geno

reverse band anything implies using the bands to take weight off the bottom portion of the lift. the further you are along in the lift, the more weight is being added because the band is contributing less and less.

you can use your imagination to set these up.

for deads, you can run the bands around a pin in the power rack and place the bar in them. depending on how much help you want, you can double the bands up, use different band sizes, raise the pin height where you loop the bands, etc.

I can only tell you to experiment and BE careful. it is a little awkward when you first start.
