Reusing a pin to draw........

There has been post in recent days about reusing needles to split a pinning from say one delt to the next, and I think most (including myself) agree that it is much safer - to get a new pin.

MY question is towards the feasibility of reusing a 18 Ga. needle, to draw gear out of a vial. The 18 Ga, works really really nicely in drawing up gear quickly, where the 23 Ga. is not so cooperative. I only have a limited supply of 18 Ga. which I purchased specifically for drawing out of vials. when I draw the oil out with the 18 - I switch to a clean fresh 23 Ga. to pin with. But does anyone think it is ok, or wise/unwise to reuse the 18 Ga. just for this purpose and this purpose only? If I keep it capped and wrapped from the previous draw, do you think I could reasonably reuse the 18 Ga.??

Just preload your pins, do like 6 shots worth. Use the one needle for all six then huck it. Not worth the risk of any type of cross contamination IMO. Pins are cheap and shipping is fast.

I used to reuse my drawing pin. I'd keep it in the freezer between draws.
But then I was the one who'd use the same rig for shots to different locations of the same arm, one after the other.
Never had a problem with either frugal method.

Just so I am clear on this, you want to keep using the same needle to draw from the vial over and over again?

That's corrct - just for drawing purposes. If I take the advise and path of putting it in the freezer in between - you think it will make the difference.

Yeah - this is probably good advise. I already advocate changing needles every time Anyone plans to pin...but for drawing purposes I was thinking maybe there was some slight difference. But I think simply drawing up a weeks worth - every 18 Ga. use would be smart too!

To be honest I do the same thing and do not have a problem. I use an 18g for oil and a different one for water based gear. I use a fresh one on a weekly basis but I have always used the same 18g tip for more than a few times to load the syringe. But if you think about it, there will be reminants of the steroid being used on that drawing pin so likely not THE safest method, however I never have had a problem and I have been doing it that way for a long time.

I understand the - common sense of it (not reusing a pin even for drawing) - But I'm thinking - yeah, a little extra effort towards safety, and the risks are minimalized -\
- recap the 18 Ga.\
- place it in the freezer ?? (maybe will cut down on any bacteria growing)
- use no more than - weekly (this way I only need 12-14 total 18 Ga. needles per cycle...

- Or Not and just reorder another 200 18 Ga. needles, for this purpose only = better safe than sorry.

Thanks guys, something for me to think about....

i dont do it, but imo i dont see anything wrong with it, but pins are dirt cheap why not just spend a few bucks to avoid any risks?'

peace

DONT re-use, not even for drawing,,, pins are so dirt cheap just buy more....on top of the bacteria issues, after the first draw the tip of that 18g harpoon is dull, hence when you restick it into the vial you are making a bigger hole and could possibly be pushing small particles of the rubber stopper into your gear, granted that can happen even with a new pin but more likely with a dull one......
spend the few $$ thats my opinion.../

one infection will cost you 100x or more the cost of fresh pins. wtf?
Mav is right.
I recently got a MRSA staph infection in my upper inner left thigh (not gear related, but possibly deadlift suit related), and with good insurance it's cost me $80 so far, plus I've lost one week of work and training.

i would 'almost' understand people using a pin more than once if they were very expensive (even just for drawing) but it would still be a dumb idea.

pins are free over here, so its something ill never do. couldnt be worth any risks

50 needles (20g x 1.5) costs about 6 bucks plus shipping.

So for about 11 bucks you can use new needles every time.

What was the question again?

if your as sterile and careful as you can be. since only a draw pin

If you had to do it like once it would probably be ok if you cleaned the vial with an alcohol swab and kept the drawing needle sterile, that being said, I would advise against it.

I'm sure you already know it's better to use a new needle everytime. You're probably running low and don't want to have to order any. How many times would you have to re-use it? I wouldn't make a habit out of it.

dude, you can go to a vet supply website, and order a box of 100 18g x 1" pins for $8.00. You broke or something? You can afford a cycle with PCT (maybe), but not a box of 100 needles to draw with for 8 fuckin dollars???!?!!

Yep totally agree....Also have you ever seen those pics of a pin after one, two and three uses...There was one at my RX... AMAZING....what it looks lilke even after one stick... I'd be scared of rubber particles....etc.... Some states, regardless of state law...wont dispense pins without an RX....

I got into an argument at my walgreens over this....state says yes...they said they follow fed law...which says NO... I even took my RX bottle...

wonder why people get infections then blame it on dirty gear
