Rest=lift more

Roadblock

New member
Last time I did Deadlifts I pulled up 297lbs for 4reps. 2weeks ago I took a one week vaccation from lifting and when I came back I pulled up 308lbs for 6 reps and I tried to max and did 330lbs fairly easy for 1rep and felt like I could´ve done more.
Damn, can´t wait till next resting period.

Anyone know how powerlifter lock their grip with the thumb?

I'm taking a week off as well. I 've been doing the Old School 3 day Split program for 8 weeks.....I think I'm overtraining.

I'm not sleeping and my eating habits have changed. My knees, elbows and hips are sore. But, I put on 12 pounds of LM in 8 weeks. I was hitting it hard. But, I'm starting to feel like shit.

I think some rest and stretching and eating will help.....

Roadblock - first of all, you have my vote for best avatar.

And yeah, I always comeback stronger after a week's rest. And I always find it odd. I go in fully prepared to be weak as shit, and I end up stronger than when I left. I guess it's kinda like eating after you've been starving yourself for a while.

Yeah breaks are great for your body, just not too long, i try for exaclty one week and most of the time i come back stronger. Some of it is overtraining and giving your body some time to recover. But another part is the Mental fatigue that often accompanies weeks of vigorous training. I gonna take one in a week, then i should come out firing like a monster.:D :D

I usually workout 6 days a week, some would call this overtraining but my power always goes up the more I train. If i take a break my power always goes down.

It makes sense that if you have a week of rest, good diet, etc, that you'd be stronger when you return. But, during New Years I fucked up and went partying in SOCal for a whole week, no sleep and a ton of alcohol. I got back feeling like shit, went to the gym and deadlifted 495 for 2, and stiff-legged off block 405 for 5. I felt great. Made no sense.:confused:

By the way Roadblock, I've tried the thumb lock grip. Its fucking tough. It feels like my thumbs gonna be torn off because you actually use your thumb like a wrap.

it is amazing how a good rest can bring you back refreshed and stronger than before! I think if you are trainign naturally it is essential to take a week off every 3 months or so. works for me.

as far as powerlifters locking their grip, I dont think there is a specific technique - I see WAY too many lifters dropping their weight. I think it is all about grip strength
