Relative Strength

If you weighed 130lbs and deadlift 240lbs, is that good, average or poor relative strength?

I hear people say if you are strong you should be able to deadlfit 2x your bodyweight. But a deadlift of 260lbs for a bodyweight of 130lbs doesn't sound right.

Thanks all. First post on here so go easy!!!

My wife's goal at 115-120 is 2x bodyweight. It's a great goal and a good "starter goal" for a deadlift. I missed 2.5x bodyweight 2 months ago by 15 lbs. The great light- to middle-weights lift 3+ times bodyweight. So, set your goal for that 2x and move up from there! You CAN do it with the right training.

For a woman or a kid...I'd say that it is pretty good. My ex-girlfriend deadlifted 250 x 13 or 15 in a contest once but she was about 160 I think. No belt or straps I don't think either. She could also pull 315 for a few (with belt).

If you are a man...I'd suggest the See-Food diet.

I'm 16!

Today I maxed out on the deadlift for the first time and got 240. That's without belt and straps. I'm like the only person in my gym who deadlifts, so I have no idea if that's a good lift or not for someone of my size (and age). That being 130lbs with 20 inch quads.

To be honest I'm not a huge believer in size though. You could be built like Arnie, but if you don't have the strength to back it up, what's the point?

Yep, it's all about relative strength for me. But when I hear that women are lifting more than me, that makes me feel sad. :(

Why would 260 at 130 sound odd to you if 240 is OK?
I guess it doesn't sound all that odd come to think of it!

Sorry, because I'm from Australia I usually talk in kg's, so I can get confused.

Don't get hung up on the man-woman thing. If a woman has more muscle than you then expect that she'll lift more, she's earned it. I've seen a woman deadlifting 3 plates for easy reps.

Be careful of comparing yourself to others. I guarantee you that no matter how strong you get, there will be some waspy 100-ish girl who can out lift you. Don't believe me? Check out the powerlifting mag's and stats. It's sick.

I think a 2x/bodyweight DL is awesome. And 3x/bodyweight makes you a monster in my book. But I'm weak, so I set mediocre goals. LoL

Gotcha man. Time is on your side.

That is a pretty decent weight man...just keep working on it. Don't worry about going for a new Personal Record every time that you are in the gym though. Build the deadlift with some other exercises like:
Box Squats
Good Mornings
Stiff Legged Deads
etc...

Pull for 5's, 3's, higher volume singles, etc...find what works best for you.

You are right...mass does NOT always equal strength but the bigger guys ARE the ones using the most weight in general. That last several people to set the WR in the Deadlift have all been over 140 kilos. I believe that they might have also easily been over the 150 kilo range.
