i've been a fan of ambient dub for many years and i've developed an appreciation for reggae beats.

i want to purchase some reggae cd's but have no idea as to what to buy. could some of you give me some suggestions?

i want the best quality available since i'm only going to buy a few.

I have been a reggae fan for years and years. My grandfather is from jamaica and I have developed over the years a good ear for the oldies and the new dancehall hits and everything in between. BLACK UHURU is a band that is VERY NICE and they have several albums available.Steel pulse is another roots band that plays a lot of culture music as well. There is so much out there that we could go on and on for days if not years! Here is a website for you to check out so you can look and hear some music. www.vprecords.com they are one of the biggest record companies in the business so you can order on line and look through their vast collection of artists. Another is www.rudegal.com and they have many links and LOTS of information and I do mean LOTS FOR YOU! They can give you insight on the reggae scene in america, jamaica, europe and all over.Follow the links and you will find so much that you will be on there for a while.Drop me a pm if you need more and tonight I will look up a few others I have not been on in a while and get back to you! GOOD LUCK and for info on jamaica and NEGRIL in particular go to www.beingees.com and they are a site dedicated to negril,a small town on the western most tip of jamaica, that is a hidden paradise and you can go to the negril board or chat room and you will find hundreds of people who are die hard jamaica fans and will happily answer anything you need to know about music and jamaica in general! get back with me and let me know what you need or what you find!! later RIZZO:D

rizzo -- thank you very much. i will definitely check out those sites. off the top of your head can you think of any bands that are contemporary and perhaps use a little bit of electronic sounds? i really love the deep, bouncy, trippy, pot-smoking music!!

so do you go to jamaica often?
jamaica is definitely on my to-do list. i want to check out the goa trance scene in israel and then go to jamaica and brazil.

i met a guy who said that jamaica is totally breath-taking. he said he went there with his best friend and hired some guides to take them into the wild. they both dropped some liquid acid and said that they ate wild fruit all day and chilled out under the waterfalls. it sounds fantastic.

Aside from Bob (of course), Steel Pulse is the greatest IMHO. Their best record was 'True Democracy', but they have a Greatest Hits record that is a MUST HAVE!

-Wizkid25..... you like raggae, but you don't like Bob? There is something worng with you kid!

In NEGRIL we have a place called MRS.BROWNS MAGIC MUSHROOM AND TEA HOUSE and they have it all there for you! Negril has the best ganja on the island and I do mean the sticky icky wicked buds for your brain! The dancehall scene is on fire and buju banton, bounty killer, merciless, and a few others are tearing it up! I think you would like THIRD WORLD,PETER TOSH, BERES HAMMOND, BURNING SPEAR, DENNIS BROWN,SLY AND ROBBIE,who are jamaica's premier beat makers and have worked with the rolling stones, whitney houston and many other stars in the music business.Their tracks are found on BLACK UHURU'S MUSIC they have their own label TAXI GANG.They are true to the beat and without lyrics their beats will drive your brain crazy. My wufe is from springfield, a small area outside of negril, and I have been going to jamaica since about 1976 and love it to death.Did you see when JERRY SPRINGER had his spring break show? That was negril and it is the best kept secret or was, but they have no hotels over 2 stories and the seven mile beach is out of this world. It is located 1 1/2 hours by car west of montego bay and it is in the country so all the rat race is left in the city.OCHO RIOS is very nice and I used to stay there a lot but I fell in love with negril a long time ago and met my wife there and I have so many friends and family there that for me to stay anywhere else is a crime in my book.PORT ANTONIO is on the far eastern corner of the island and it is amazing.Did you see robin williams in club paradise? That is port antonio and it used to be a pirate hang out long ago and its pristine waters and lagoons are out of this world. The worlds biggest marlin fishing tournament is held there each year and ERROL FLYNN had a house there and HARRISON FORD,MADONNA and many other stars have been spotted there many times.I stayed at a place called the parrot inn and let me tell you I was in heaven! LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED ANYMORE INFO AND CHECK THOSE SITES AND GO TO THE LINKS AND EXPLORE! RIZZO

Here is a list of some popular reggae artists.

Sean Paul and Mr.Vegas have some wicked combinations and LEXUS is a show stopper always.Barrington Levy's hit "broader than broadway" and all the other hits are a must have!Mr.? where in florida are you from, if you do not mind me asking? I am currently in macedonia on active duty with the army and the president was at camp bondsteel today and now all the fighting at the macedonian border has started again, so I expect to be on lockdown AGAIN tommorow and for how long who knows? These people cannot come to a peace agreement and the macedonian army has run out of patients with the rebels.......WAR AGAIN!
