Regarding MySpace and Kids

How old would you require your child to be before he has an acct?

My son will be 12 in a few days and I refuse to allow him an acct on myspace. For one, he would have to lie and say he's 15 or so. So doesn't that ring a bell?

I am just flabbergasted right now due to a few accts of kids... yes children on there.

I have seen some of the comments these kids make and its utterly disgusting.

Underage boys should not be allowed on myspace at all.

Underage girls, however, should be encouraged to join.

:D I kid I kid !

18 with supervision. Screw all these parents who give in to the whiney cries of "I want, I want, I want".

Just think of some of the pervs who post on this site..... :worried:

HALE NAW.

I agree! My son keeps on me daily... OH but my friends are on there... So my retort... "I am not your friends mother" No freaking way I will allow it. He will get on when, for one... I know he is mature enough to be there, and two... when he's 30!

LOL

I think 14 is the minimum age they allow. So that should be the absolute floor.
After he is 14 you can discuss it again.
Don't be surprised if he opens one up while at a friends house!! Boys do that shit!

Good question - my daughter is 12 and she has an account. However, I make her keep it private so only her friends can post to it. In addition, I check her friend list all the time to make sure it is just that.

What do you think??

my boys are 15 and 15 (almost 16), and 15 (almost 16). the 15 and one of the 15 (almost 16) year olds have an account, which i monitor.

i do wonder if some of the mothers of their female friends have any idea what their daughters are doing.

well, i won't discuss whom but I ran across a few nephews that added me to their friends list and one is 12 the other is 7 and both lied and have their age at 16 and 15. There is no damn reason for a 7yr old to have a myspace! Then reading the comments on the 12 year olds acct was disgusting!

Sure when I do allow my son to have one it will be under my supervision. Its things like this that I see that make me say hell NO every time he asks. All his friends have one, and thats his argument with me... but I don't care! If he wants to talk to his friends he can call them.

I have since completely removed my laptop nightly unless there is research to do ... etc.

Question is do you limit where they go on internet. There are a lot worse things that can happen in chat rooms and msn + webcams than on Myspace AND there is no tracks to follow.

Out of all the current electronic communications going on, that feels the safest to me. At least I can see the action.

Yes I do!

I think it should be 18+. Kids just lie on there.
I go to browse for local hotties, 28-33, and theres always a few very young kids that show up, they just put in 29 or something for age. It's fucking freaky.

I agree. My son will be 14 in January and he does have an account to which is also set private and I have the password for. He knows that I can go in there at ANY time I want to. He knows that if even his friends are questionable with even language used...I will personally delete them! My computer is also set where if I am even watching tv I can see the computer when he is on and he can not get on if I am not at home. (my computer has a password that is needed to restart) I am thankful that I have a close relationship with him and he will even call me to computer to see things. He has no problem with me sitting right there while he is on. I am lucky I guess, I have raised a good kid. :)

yeah 16 minimum. its these little kids that ruin good things for us adults. next thing you know some little kid is gonna have a problems, the parents will flip shit and we will soon see no more myspace.

I see were you could say that but not all kids are equal. If I couldn't trust my kid and he was always in trouble or things like that then there would be no question....no myspace. As it stands for now, I can trust him and he is a pretty good kid that I rarely have any troubles from.

so how old was everybody when they had sex for the 1st time? including sucking a guy's dick, just because some women don't think that counts.

ahem... I was about 1 week or so before my 18th bday, close to a year into a relationship before my first and worst encounter with sex.

when I scroll through myspace, if the profile says under 18 (unless i personaly know them) I move right along. problem is, so many young girls put revealing profile pics and thats where predators find them

well, my son wants a page BAD! If indeed I allow him to communicate online at anytime any day, mamma will be there constantly looking over his shoulder. As of now I don't feel he is old enough for it. He's only 12 for peeps sakes. I don't want him to have acess to seductive pics that are quite avaliable on there. I don't mind tasteful art and photo's but some pics are just down right disgusting.

ok so you were 14 and the dude could have been better or more gentle or whatever.

lol

actually I was the ripe ol age or close to 18, and believe me... had I known then what I know now, I'd have passed. Sad thing is I ended up staying in that relationship due to the fact that I'd given away something precious and only for that fact. I didn't like the guy or love the guy. I had no physical attraction to him either. Hell, he sucked at just about everything! ....... Well... yea everything.

having sex with a guy the first time is something precious???

Can parents get in trouble with the law if their kids go on myspace, find a stranger, and have sex?
Like suppose the parent just didnt monitor their internet activity at all, and the kid lied and said they were going to a friends house.
