Pullups Chinups

Ok I use the assist machine to do my pull up/chin ups now if I want to work hard and be able to do em with no help - should I throw on low weight and do a lot of reps or do what ive been doing which is close to 5x5 but usually 6 or 7 reps?

what really helped me was a partner who helped me just a tad bit by doing them without the machine

I started with maybe just doing 2-3 of them and slowly worked my way up

my partner has been going down in the assisted weight just about every week now. he started off with 112lbs of assist and i believe he's down to 40lbs now. it's been 13 weeks. he's also coming off of a shoulder injury. dislocated it a year ago and has never done pullups before in his life.

when i was in boot camp, you'd get up on the bar and do as many pullups as you could. when you hit the point of failure, someone would grab your feet and assist you to 20. over the course of 3 months, that got me from 10-11 up to 17.

yeah, i prefere the free pullups, but withsomeone to assist you by holding your feet to finish your set...

im not sure if it would work if your failing in your first set, but im only failing in my last set.

-also, what im doing is starting with my hands closer together, and each workout i widen my grip a tiny bit
