You had posted you were a systems engineer before I think? Is this a change in career for you?

The speech went great, I had everyone dying laughing and coming up to me afterwards saying it definitely was the best speech given.
Yeah and my friends suprise graduation party went off great she had no clue and she really needed it! Of course it was my last night out of full fledge eating and partying and now it's time to get serious and focused on the diet. My trainer and I had the conversation on friday about dieting down. So it's getting exciting! I also talked to him about Staci and I think he may nonchalantly talk to her about it. Also, met a hot guy at the bar (yes of all places) Actually I was up on the bar dancing with my friends for about 3 hours straight (feet VERY swollen today). He just kept winking and waving to me and smiling. So we actually didn't even talk but before I left he came over and got my number. That was at 3 this morning :)

Yes this will eventually be a full career change... but it's going to be a slow process for me to work up my client base and figure out how to live off a lot less money and still survive. I'll open a business out of the house later this year probably almost winter timeframe. I may work at a local country club part-time this summer, and work at the school a few days a month as an assistant teacher.

Also, doing only 4 days of cardio at 30 minutes for leg recovery. My legs feel sooooo dead today. I basically lounged around yesterday trying to keep off of them. Way to much dancing :)

No!!! I'm not a fighter. I just wish the legs showed how strong they were!! I can tell they have gotten a bit bigger but they need some growing powder poured on them!

So yesterday evening for some reason I felt like Blahhhhh. I mean you know that frustrated, anxiety, like something has gotten to you but you can't put your finger on it kinda feeling. Yeahhhh I ate some PB to get rid of the mood, and needless to say it was still there when all was said and done. I think I have the flu bug going around because I have been dragging butt the past 3 days, and my weights were a bit lower (well obviously I'm in hypertrophy now) I still had a good work-out... just this nagging feeling of I kinda wanna rip someone's head off... but I'm not sure who nor why.
I slpet 9 hours last night and woke up still kinda like errr..... I did my 30 minutes a.m. cardio on the tread at 4.4, and came to work. It's a friggin blizzard out with the snow flying and wind, compared to sunday 70 and sunny. Maybe I could blame the weather?!? To bad it doesn't have a head to rip off to get the agression out of me.

I hope your day gets better!!!!! I think the weather has a huge part of it,we are tired of the gloomy doomy days of winter. GIve me some sunshine already!!!!!

Finally had my doc appointment yesterday that I made in Jan!! So I had more blood work drawn to check the T4, renal function, and thyroid. I meet back up with her on the 4th of next month for the results. She also gave me a diuretic for the water retention I have.... My trainer was like she gave you what??? He actually was talking to the other girl and told her, "You she get some diuretics from her (my) doctor she just hands them out!" I couldn't get a feel for what he thought about it (good or bad)

Anyway yesterday's weights I don't have right here with me, but I did drop them and focused on my form and the conncentric, eccentric contractions. I felt like I had a really good work-out. Though I thought my weights dropped quite a bit on monday's leg work-out I am sore as heck in my hams and butt!
Tonight is plyo's.

I have the itch to move to some islands somewhere.... May be because I'm listening to a lot of Reggae.. but I need some sun, and some water!

Sounds good to me,I'm craving sun and warmth!!! Are you retaining alot of fluid or something?

Well when we do my body fat measurements my arm fold, and my stomach fold always have a lot more water. Last few months I can go up and down with water so she gave me amild one. told me to take 1/2 tab daily, and if I feel no difference I can up it to one a day. If I feel it to much I can go every other day with a half of a tab.
What island you thinking? I'm thinking like St. Thomas!

Oh ok. Just watch your potassium when taking that stuff. But then you already know that. :)

I want anyplace that is warm and peaceful!!!! Someplace I can sit on the beach and watch the waves and listen to my surrounding and just get lost in that for a while would be awesome!

Kinda funny because I just posted in your log about meditating about being outside and by water!
Yeah my doc told me to watch the potassium with it. I can't eat banana's (not in the diet), but I due take vits. Thanks!

What diuretic did your doctor prescribe? Lasix? I have some of that and I've debated whether I should pop half a pill after a cheat meal.

Again I think we are all ready for some sun... I bought another cd yesterday with reggae, and island hits, and I have been big on the cocunut lime verbana lotion from Bath and Body Works, and I bought the scented oils... So my house smells like a big coconut!

Another guy I met at the bar that night is a perosnla trainer and we have been e-mailing. (SOOO not my type) but seems like a cool guy to hang out with. He's a tennis pro, and manages 4 or 5 gyms. It could end up being a good deal for me because he has my resume and has a few clients who are doctors he is going to try and get me into their private practices :)
So we'll see... He knows a lot of people. Another is an internship with the Detroit Red Wings. We'll see!

So yesterday was just an odd day for me... I start out feeling like I should be on the islands somewhere... Then I leave work feeling blah and heading to the gym and I get a phonecall from someone who I thought was someone that saw my resume.... Nope.... The director of my school has this client who used to play for some NHL teams and ummmm she told him to call me. So I had a really good work-out needless to say because I wasn't expecting that and was looking forward to seeing who this guy was. Funny because I still don't remember his last name, and all I know is a few teams he played for. It was an awesome date though. Went to Outback, and then he took me to one of his houses that he is reconstructing. It just makes me sick! I bust my butt off here he is talking about getting mahogony railing, and cherry wood front doors, and showing me this huge wine cellar he has in part of his basement. Needless to say we had fun playing pool... Although I really think he wanted to play more then pool it was kinda obvious. He realized just because he is showing me all this 'money' he has I'm not that easy. Also could be a bad influence when I start dieting down because he drinks like a fish, and well yeah I'm not going to be. He lives off a golf course and told me he'll talk to the country club owners about hiring me on as a massage therapist. That would be awesome!
So today there are no weights, but I'm going to do 30 minutes of cardio at lunch. I have a nutritional seminar I am going to this afternoon, and a interview this evening!

So yesterday I did my cardio at lunch, and this evening I have weights with the trainer.
I soooo did not want to get up today. I have felt drained the past two weeks!
I went to bed at 9:30, and got up at 6... still need some more!
Interview went good yesterday but I don't know if I want to work there, they were kinda hmmmm wierd.... I have another interview at lunch today.

Today, 8 years ago I was leaving for boot camp! They officially cannot recall me ever again :)
To drink green beer, or not to drink is the question now!

For my reference....

Suits
Order much in advance and give a date a few weeks before you actually need it. Try it on right away so you can make adjustments. Do not cut straps until you get to the show because your dry weight may need you to cinch the suit even more. Bring safety pin to help you thread the sash through the loops. Make sure it is centered in the back. The sides of your suit on the two piece should be as high as your belly button. Think about the shape of your suit. If you have a great back make sure there is not much fabric on the sides of your suit. Think about your legs would a really high cut make you look lanky? Definitely get a suit made for you. The girls that don’t get one made for them don’t look comfortable. Be wary of bikini bite. It can take off your tan which is a problem if your two suits are different cuts. Hopefully your suit will fit and you do not need it. No matter what do not pick your butt on stage it looks tacky.

Packing for Hotel
Bring plastic trash bags and masking tapes to put on the walls, carpet, and floors
Bring your own towels and bed sheets and blankets
Not only bring towels for floors but to shower
Bring cleaning spray for toilet seat after each use
Bring paper towels, gloves
Bring robe and flip flops
I tend to cover all up at night: socks, long sleeves, long loose pants with no must elastic.
Elastic will wear away more

Days before Prep
Nail brush for palms and heels cleaning incase it absorbs too much tanning products
Waxing is good but it may take off some skin. Wax a day or two before starting to tan. Hair removal creams work ok but not great. Shave if you like but watch for razor burn it will make your tan blotchy.

Clothing at show
Shoes in Tupperware
Clothing in plastic bags
Teal Suit
Heels should not be platform
Bring own mirror to show
Have name on items
Rolling bag so don’t rub bag against body—wipe off tan
Have an extra pair of shoes for the event incase you break a heel
Jewelery for day show: ring, bracelets, not to ornate belly ring ok, ear rings –keep the jewelry out of hair until the night show—no glitter during the day show

Make-Up
DARK-if going for dramatic eyes, then tone down lips or visa versa. If you dramatize both it can look like a clown (MAC consultant)
If worried about application, have a MAC store put it on for you ($40)
Nails must be done—most keep fingers with French manicure
Cover tatoo

Prep for stage
Bring your own weights but be ok if you do not get them back. Some shows had too few weights to pump up with.
Have your two suits be dramatically different in color
Color suits will distract from your body which is not a bad thing.
Bring book or music for back stage-lots of waiting time..relax
Bring hair clip (bananna clip) to keep hair off oily back before stage
Hot curlers for first round, hair will straighten with oil so then go straight second round
Talc powder for hair to absorb oil
Fake lashes a must
Nivea Moisturizer extra rich lotion possibly instead of oil
Or curly first round. Oil makes hair straight for second round due to oil.
Jewelry on last so not to snag suit
Spray glitter for night stage

Tanning
8 coats protan
Shower
2 coats
(we thought I was too light after this
--shower a must tan looked less caked (showered Friday morning before a sat morning show
Stop tanning (salon earlier—when got waxed lots of dead skin came off affected tan—remember underarm blotches)
Lotion on hands, feet, and knees before Mike paints to reduce amount the absorbs in those areas.
Watch for bathing suit to rub off tan between one piece and two piece round


Training:
Neutral hips on ham curls
Push through toes on calf raises
Walk on treadmill w/ highest incline for 0 min 3 X week
Stretch more to reduce injury

JUST REMEMBER YOU TRAINED HARD YOU LOOK GREAT AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE JUDGES WANT! DO NOT ASSUME THE GIRL NEXT TO YOU LOOKS BETTER—IT WILL AFFECT YOUR PSYCHE—AND AGAIN WHO KNOWS WHAT THE JUDGES WANT. A girl I thought would take first at my first show took 3rd and I took first.

Glad the interview went well. If your not feelin this place don't do it. Listen to your gut!! Maybe the next one will the right place for you.

Well it's a pretty good deal as a massage therapist... The main reason I was looking to go part-time at a place was to be able to work with other therapists and trade ideas. I have a room in my house so it's not about getting clients or not having an area to work in necessarily. This place the two people have a LOT of knowledge but only one room so I would be there pretty much working by myself which is fine.. but doesn't leave any room to levy off of each other's experience and knowledge. I can work at home by myself just the same and I wouldn't have to give them 40% of what I made.
(40% includes a laundry service, all my lotions, oils, table to use, heat blankets, instruments, hot stones, music, lights, marketing of myself on their website, brochures, meetings throughout the area, the place is Mfit approved (huge bonus), etc... It's like a rent fee) and they don't lock you into more then a month's contract.
The place I'm interviewing today is an upscale yoga, pilates, gym, massage place. Which if I decide to get my PT cert then I could do both PT and massage. I'm just not sure what their deal is until I go in.
Again though... I guess I'm just not sure 100% what I want to do.

Just go with your gut, if it's not what you are really looking for as in it's not gonna give you what you want as in pop of ideas and experiences like you want. But maybe you could possibly give it a shot and if it doesn't work out or you don't like move on with either place you decide to give try.

Yeah I agree... I guess it's the apprehension of the whole out of the box moving in a new direction and shakey on what steps to take so I don't get burned....

Well you know you know yourself and you know when to get out and when to stay, if you decide to give it a go and don't like you are in charge of you and just get out but take what you've learned there and grow from it.

If I didn't have a house... I really think I would move out of state... go work in Florida, or the islands for awhile. Maybe even Santa FE New Mexico, or Colorado. Since I do.... I'm trying to figure out how to live off less money and still pay my bills. I really don't think doing massage would cover me. So the other debate is do I go part-time here at work, and full time massage therapist?!? If you didn't know I REALLY hate my job (System's Engineer)..... I have a hard time sitting at a desk all day. I need to move around and interact with people... which is another reason I am thankful for this board!!

I bought a couple of books a while ago and corporated some of what was in the into our lives and they have made a big difference. Now we are still adjusting but I can see a difference. They are debt proof living and live your life for half the cost both by Mary Hunt. SHe's now a money coach for aol and has a website www.debtproofliving.com

Can you rent your house? I'm not sure what your neighborhood's like, but when I bought my place, I told myself that I wouldn't be held back by it and I would rent it out if I ever wanted to move somewhere else temporarily.

That's a good idea... but for some reason. O.k. I live in a brand-new subdivision houses range about $200-$300k Rent on a house like mine would be like $1500... people buy these houses and turn around and sell them. I mean I moved in in Jul of last year and my neighbor already has a for sale sign on their house! Somebody else has had a sign on their house up for rent $1600, since November and no bites on it. I really like my house, I mean I have a massage room I had built in and I do want to utilize it. I think I need to wait a few years to totally transition out of being a Sys Eng. That way I can work up my clients and then I can do massage out of the house.... Get my Personal Training Cert this summer, and do personal training also. Noone should do massage as a full-time career because they would totally wear them out.

SOOOOOO I just had that interview and I really felt that that IS the place I want to join!
They also have personal training and the lady said if I want to become a personal trainer that they are looking for people... So I could eventually start out doing both there.
The place had a very high energy atmosphere and I could see myself totally fitting in there. She told me to think about it and give the other head massage therapist a call so I can do trades with the girl and then the therapist will decide if they should hire me. I have no fear about my work I know I am good at it. As soon as I walked in the door it felt like home.
Unlike the place I interviewed yesterday at. I would make a bit less on the money side but I don't care... because I can work with the other two therapists their and trade off knowledge, and I can work with the trainers.
I'm psyched now!

So I talked with my trainer yesterday and it looks like I may be able to swing both personal training and work as a massage therapist at my gym that I already work out at. He also is involved with U of M hospitals and I could work my way into the outreach events they have, and also become a contractor for his company. So I could potentially drop part-time as a Sys Eng while I work up my client base.
We'll see what happens... Still deciding...

Yesterday is officially my last day of drinking/partying. I'm sick of waking up with the cotton ball in my throat and feeling run down. PlusI needed one last muhaaaaa before my diet down. My work-out went really well yesterday with the trainer. He is actually going to have me go only 3 weeks this cycle, and take a full week off before I start dieting down.
Anyway...

Thanks dear... I'm not looking! That last one was set up with me by the director of the school I just graduated from!!!! The others I have met by means of school doing outreach events, or through friends. I haven't touched anyone from the gym as I'm just to fearful that next thing you know I will feel uncomfortable going to the place I like the most if things go all wrong. I have found I have saved myself from a lot of idiots by learning who they really are just walking around a gym and hearing some of the stupid stuff come out of their mouth!
Maybe I should try picking guys up at the bar!!!! :)

Yesterday was so busy!!! I had an awesome work-out though, and completed a lot of stuff. I have my massage room pretty much set up... so I'm ready for the clients now.
Yesterday energy levels were pretty high, and I feel pretty good today. Did my 30 minutes a.m. cardio, 15 minutes of stretching, and I have my upper body assortment of weights this evening.
Food has been going good. No real hunger pains...
I'm suprised I didn't gain any weight over this past weekend. I'm not complaing either! I think I'll actually lose a pound this week.
As long as it's fat!
I helped my mom drop another 9 lbs. Good thing!!!!
I also have some guy asking me to put together a diet and work-out program already. Funny I think my energy over working-out gets other people excited about working out.
Well off to work :( Blahhh

For YOUR body, what is the split of importance of diet and training, i.e. 80% diet, 20% training or 50:50 etc? What works for you? Just curious.....

I would have to say diet is heavily more important then the actual working out. For me if I eat clean I don't have to work out as much in the gym to see the results happening. My upper body tends to gain muscle easily, my lower body I do better with a strength cycle to see some muscle gains. I tend to gain fat and have water retention easily when I stray away from approximately a 40/30/30 split, or if I consume higher amounts of refined foods. I tend to stay around a 2,000 calorie diet this past winter just because it seems I feel mooseish if I go to much higher. Also, I'm working on getting my metabolism to burn faster and any significant jump in calories my body will store as fat. winter 2004 I stuck at around 1,800. So it's slowly getting faster.
Next winter I'm going to try and stick around a 2,400-2,600 calorie diet to add more muscle to the legs.
Then again when I'm in the gym it's always 110% effort on what I am doing so I don't play around in there either. I have saw more gains when I learned how the mind and muscle work together and how to properly fire a muscle. I wasted more time in the gym for many years because I was just going through the motion. You literally have to put either your hand on the muscle you are working or watch it in the mirror until you can train yourslef on the how to properly activate it. Then it becomes easier because you automatically know when you are not performing the exercise right.

So I would say 75% diet, 25% weights (after you figure out how to fire the muscle)

55% diet, 45% weights (if you don't know how to fire the muscle)

;) :heart: I can tell you I had 5 (medium) cookies on saturday as my cheat food... but that was the first time I ate any real junk in quite sometime.
Moderation is the key sweetheart! You can have the brownie every once in awhile, just not every day! Everyone needs to have those things here and there to keep sane. If I don't eat something like that every once in awhile and then one day I do it's a downward spiral. Then I'm like "Ohhhh that tasted good must have more!"
I don't have any junk food in my house. Then again I don't have anyone else living with me so I don't have to worry about the stuff being in the cupboards. Then again I'm always active doing something so I don't have time to even grab something like that even if I wanted it.
Not only that you have all of us every day on this board to slap your hand from that brownie :friends: All you have to do is stop think of us and come chat and then you won't want it! Just ask Jenscat when she was dieting down....

Work-out yesterday was pretty good. Noticing some issues in the shoulder girdle still. I have that instability in there that keeps screwing me up.

Did my 30 minutes a.m. cardio, some stretching.
I have plyos, abs, and lower back this evening
I have been eating oatmeal for breakfast every day since August 1 of last year and this is the first morning it just is kinda blah to me...
Also felt kinda dehydrated this A.M. may not take that diuretic today. Doc said I could do 1/2 tab every other day so I may do that.
Anywho it's hump day!!! I only have one more day of work and I leave for Vegas on friday yippeeee!

Yeah we have some light snow here this morning also!
My friend said it's going to be 75 and sunny when I get there..... I can't wait!!! I plan on R&R hanging out with her. Not into the gambbling thing....

Oh God I can't wait for temps like that!!! I don't gamble either, I have this thing where it's hard for me to justify the risk of losing money I need for the very slight chance of winning some. I was thinking more on the lines of clubs!!!! :lil k: :dance2:

I do the fingertips on the muscle sometimes - just did it yesterday. My trainer taught me that a long time ago. I NEED to do it sometimes if I'm feeling weak or if I'm having a hard time focusing.

Nope I'm done with clubs until July 15th... No more drinking or blah feelings from that. Yeah so that means.... about 4 months! I should start a countdown log once I'm on my cutting diet. I just get so attached to my log I don't want to start a new one... Maybe I could rename my log.... I think it's 17 days till cutting kick-off

Anyway...
Weights were good last night. No weights today!!
I have my interview at 2:30, giving a massage at 4:00, meeting up with friends for dinner at 5:30, then home to pack for tomorrow. So busy day.
My weight has been holding steady with the increase in calories. Makes sense because I was dropping about a pound and a half a week on the lower cals.
I think though I have dropped some body fat because I'm in a pair of pants I couldn't get on before :) Also my obliques are starting to pop some. YEAHHHhhh
