Really screwed my shoulder over- Acromion joint - looking for exp. input

Help me, for the love of my lifting HELP ME!

I have abused the shoulder for a long time and thought I was doing good.

It just started aching one day and kept getting worse. I say a doctor we did the x-rays and nothing was torn or separated though there was plenty of inflammation. The doctor concluded that the injury was the acromion and also assigned me to physio.

The physiotherapist thought that perhaps my chest and front delt were tighter than my lats and rear delts and the tendons were being pulled in a counterproductive way. I followed the routine assigned for 2 months, no progress.

So we did the NSAIDs and I took off a couple of months. Went back and trained around it though I still did squats, I would do incline DB’s for my chest and it didn’t hurt too bad at all, I also did machine press.

Then it started to hurt again, so I got a cortisone shot and it felt good in the front but still bad from the side. I trained with restricted motion and introduced incline smith. Its only gotten worse, my weights dropped and the pain though masked by the cortisone was there.

I stopped training 2 months ago and while the cortisone has almost if not completely worn off my shoulder is in a world of hurt.

I want to heal it and don’t know what I should do.

I am considering light weight workouts.

lil help?

well in that case.....

hehe. j/k

how much rotator work did you do in the past? how about before your workouts as just a warmup?

It sounds to me like you are having rotator cuff trouble, thus the inflammation mentioned before. I have posted a bunch of rotator cuff stretches and exercises on the Monster Muscle forum. Do a search there under shoulder pain or shoulder and you should find them. They helped me as well as others there. Rest a few weeks from lifting, and do the rotator work, then when you feel better start working the weight back in SLOWLY, giving your shoulder time to heal. I do them constantly, and they don't let me down.. If you don't prehab the shoulders[and body in general], you'll end up doing rehab.
Good luck.

I did some but if this is the cause obv. not enough.

Will working on the cuffs with this pain be counter-productive. Should I wait until the shoulder feels a ton better????

I am skeptical that it is the RC, the doc's both said no - that the pain I was exp was acromion - however they did point out that this injury can lead to a RC injury. Maybe that's what I've done.

I'll do some research.

Do cuff rehab with bands as well as face pulls with bands. Will feel hella better with a little blood and oxygen in the area.

In addition to RC rehab, especially with bands, you might pick up some Blue Emu (I know Sam's Club carries it) and rub it into your shoulder. It works wonders for me for minor joint problems.

hey cipherlock i did the same thing i fucked up my essies joint in my shoulder and the doctor gave me antiinflammatories and it went away try it dude

I had the surgery described in the link below on my ac joint about 6 weeks ago. I was at the point where I couldn't lift my arm above my head without pain. I also could not even roll over onto my left side at night. At 6 weeks out my shoulder feels 100% better pain wise, I still have a long way to go as far as rehab goes to get my strength back, but it's getting better.
