Which ones are true to what happened? I've watched 'We were soldiers' and 'Black Hawk Down' recently, found the former not bad, but found Black Hawk a bit samey and turned it off after about halfway.

Depends on what era you are talking.

WW2

Saving private Ryan.

(The GI's storming the beaches is as gritty as it gets)

Vietnam

Hamburger Hill

(Excellent camera work and the explosions...!)

Platoon

(Nuff said)

Full Metal Jacket

(My personal favorite of the Vietnam movies)

I am sure there are pleanty more, but these are the ones that come to mind.

factual its tora tora tora (i think its what its called) it follows the war from pearl-midway and had input from historians on both sides, so its not biased

black hawk down was just like the book and basically a documenty

I was an Army ranger and I know a lot of guys who were there...Blackhawk Down is watered down, plus what you don't see is all of the bureaucracy that made it a mess....

Good flick though.

Apocalypse Now, the Battle of Midway...

AN came to mind, but the underlying plot underminds the war part.

(Notice how the word under__ was used twice, so eloquently?)

One of the main actors in Black Hawk Down wrote a paper about how the movie is the rape of history.......A lot of fucked up things were happening there that are never mentioned or really talked about....on all sides, american, somali and international peacekeepers

Band of Brothers is really accurate except for some minor d etails. ex. Winters did take the surrendering Nazi's side arm in real life.

I met Bill Gaurnere at the store I used to work at. He moved back to South Philly after the war.

The book Black Hawk Down gives you a better look of what was going on, but there are so many politics involved now that if you got all the details at once you're mind would be boggled. Damn shame that the guys who make all the dumb fucking decisions aren't the ones getting shot at losing lives and limbs, while the frigging politicians sip coffee and smoke cigars saying "Well..."

I recommend Band of Brothers.

Don't know how true this movie is, but Enemy at the Gates is awesome.

Bad excuse for a movie. Perhaps it is because the story had so much potential.

Hunt for Red October
Das Boot
Saving Private Ryan
Black Hawk Down
Band of Brothers
Thirteen Days

I've got to mention Band of Brothers again. I got the DVD set for christmas, and it's excellent. There's like 3 hours of bonus shit...

amazing story, check it out

Yeah -- liked that flick - Dean Martin was in that too and wasn't Sinatra? (or was it Sal Mineo?)
