Some people have a natural build that makes them excellent swimmers. They are as lean as hell, light, wide shoulders with long legs and arms and great stamina. My build is stocky, strong, and 5'9. perfect for weightlifting, but poor for swimming and a sport I was never any good at. Enjoy it to relax and can save myself if I was in trouble, so that'll do!

My college swim teacher said I was made to swim. Had a hella back stroke.

Sank like a rock though with no movement....was never light.

Why are some people lighter of heavier than they look? Everyone knows that muscles weigh more than fat. I think some have thicker, denser bones as well.

Well, some people just have a lighter bone structure, but their physical make up allows them to excel at certain sports. Cycling for instance.

Then, others have the mass to make themselves great American Footballers. Others have the height and agility to make it as a basketballer, and the really fast and tricky guy (Damien Duff of Chelsea) will cause you lots of problems when playing on the wing in a soccer match. Whatever your sport, you can't beat having good genetics.

I can keep from drowning, but I'm no swimming ace.

Dunno why, but despite my big-boned heavy frame, I am extremely bouyant, always have been, no matter whether I'm thin or fat.

I swam in thunderstorms on Lake Superior, baby. :chomp:

eh im alright...my breathing sucks, but i can just about swim an olympic pool underwater in one breath, which i wlways thought was cool :)

i have to try that again...betcha im going to faint halfway lol ;)

I can't really fit into that poll. I love water, and I can swim if need be, but I sink like a rock. Seriously I can't float at all. I take the deepest breath I can, lay on my back, and within 5 seconds my feet drift down and my head's underwater. I just can't float at all... I thought I was fat enough( fat is bouyant) but apparently I'm not :( Treading water sucks so I stay in the shallow end. Also I'm 5'5" so if I get outta the kiddie-side of the pool I'm underwater anyway :D

Swimming is one of the best forms of cardio.

like a fish. i'm a lifeguard, well i used to be at least. havent done it this year.

my friend used to be an AMAZING swimmer. (true story i swear!) when he was in 8th grade he swam with a team and kicked everyone's ass. so one time he swam against the local university's team for fun during one of their practices(coastal carolina). he beat every one of them except their strongest swimmer. mind he was 13 and the strongest swimmer they had was 21. lmfao! he was rediculous at swimming.

I was on a swim team as a kid -- had a ton of awards & trophies, etc.....

So based on that, I would say Excellent!

im a god like swimmer. there is nothing i cant do in this world.

I swim in this lake in the summer/fall-

Swimming is like sex-it requires impeccable rhythm to be done well.

Had to take a swimming class to graduate HS, 1 of the tests involved jumping in the pool with all our cloths on (jeans) then blowing up the jeans to learn to float.

I never thought that would work well in the real world.

Very very comfortable in the water and under the water
Can tread water for a very long time
Can swim many of the standard strokes very well
Can swim at a good pace for a long distance

Likely I would not win a race against a very strong swimmer.

i've been swimming since my toddler years, and helped teach swim lessons growing up. Always thought about being a lifeguard, but never did.

swimming is fun!

i can swim good but once i get into deep water as to my feet cant touch the ground then i have a problem:(

Now I tend to doubt all of the 8" pecker claims.

I seriously doubt that 50% of EF are power swimmers.

Haha, well lets just say that no one can outswim a riptide and leave it at that. ;)

I don't know the specs on riptids but the Florida coast has some nasty tides and stuff.

I was diving alone and came up a long way from my raft because I was distracted by my video taping.

Progress to the raft was minimal. Very, very minimal. A Coast Guard cutter was coming for me from what they say. They seen me go down and thought I had given up.

Actually I just swam beneath the surface because that was more effective. Until I ran out of air 20 yards from the raft.

If you can get within 20 yards, you can will the rest of it. Cramps do not matter when your life is at stake.

Then I had not the strenght to get over the sides on my Zodiac raft which I used to keep in the Keys. Had to crawl over the outboard area.

That was an exciting time for sure.

Which reminds me, I do also have a 16' Zodiac for the Colorado River trip. It takes an outboard and could tow the 18' Avon if the current was sluggish.

Have not aired it up in a while however.

I admit that I've never been a good swimmer not that it's something that I yearn for.
To me, the pool and the beach is a social milieu as supposed to a setting to exhibit your skills in swimming. I will quitely enjoy the sun & sand.

Went through the whole swimming lessons thing right up to lifesaving (bronze cross), but stopped there because I didn't want to have to give any more stank-breath random strangers mouth-to-mouth. Had a pool growing up that I was in constantly, and swam my fair share in the strong currents of the St. Lawrence River...so I'd say I'm a damn strong swimmer.
