I've been wondering what the use of chalk is for in the world of weightlifting. Also, what exactly are bench shirts and how do they work exactly. No one in my gym uses either (chalk isn't allowed) so I never see haha.

chalk, i believe is for sweaty hands, soaks up water and therefore you have a better grip.

^^^Nice find...that Plat search comes in handy.

Powerlifting equipment and form can make a big difference in the amount of weight you can handle. But if you're like most people and training for general strength/hypertrophy, bench without a bench shirt, squat ATG and without a squat suit, etc. In other words, unless you're planning on entering a PL competition, it's not really something to worry about.
