A Conventional Air Launched Cruise Missile sitting in the belly of a B-52. Actually it's 8 of them mated to a rotary launcher. Many of these and an "assload" of navy launched tomahawks will be flying in the opening round of the next conflict.

Do you have a pic of those cruise missles that break up in the air into seperate missles, each containing a warhead?

are you talking SFW, sensor fused weapons, aka the "seven consecutive miracles" (or is it six... too many beers tonight) Not really a cruise missle per se, but they do seperate. I've got vid and pics :)

Why doesn't that B-52 have any markings?

Funny story that... I've seen it posted on some website that it was some conspiracy theory B.S. Actually, it just came out of major maintenance and they didn't have time to repaint the fin flashes on it. When you fly 12-15 hour sorties at a pop, you chew through the allowable flyable hours on an airframe pretty darn quick. They rotate them in from the states on a pretty regular basis as the mx is performed.

Do you fly these planes?

My father was a flight engineer on the B-36 during his tour of duty in the Air Force for four years in the early and mid 1950's. B-36's were huge and I guess you could say I am a military aircraft buff.

Sorry, don't have that on the unclassified side The REALLY good stuff just doesn't exist on the unclassified side.

Daisy Cutter is available! I have posted it many times! However the Moad blast is still classified! You will see it soon though! The Moad has been on the fast track since Sept. 11! The Photos of the Moad were declassified recently! It will make you shit your pants when you see it! I know I did!:D Keep in mind the MOAD is full of ammonium nitrate and powdered aluminum! BOOM!

Yep, the B-52 (at least until last June - now I'm in school for a couple of years getting my masters. When I'm done, I'll end up flying a different airplane)

I'll post up some more firepower tonight :)

That's great! Those planes are so massive and have been so durable.

How are you chosen for a certain aircraft? Are you weeded out so on and so forth or do you get to choose while you are in flight school?

Any chance you will be flying the new bombers like the bat wing?

Pilot training has changed quite a bit since I went through it back in '89. You basically are ranked within your group of people and are graded on your flights. Highest ranking get's his first pick of what's available to train in.

No B-2 for me. I'm too old to cross train into it. They are waaaay too top heavy with rank right now and are trying to pull in some younger folks. I think within a few years you will be able to fly it straight out of pilot training.

Another issue is two herniated discs in my neck -> no more ejection seat aircraft for me

More pictures....

A Buff with some AGM-142 hanging under the wing....
Read about it here http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/agm-142.htm

That picture of the MK-82's is intimidating just to look at.

A few years ago there was a pilot that appeared to be hotdogging a B-52 during an air show an he turned the plane sideways and couldn't pull out of it and it crashed into a hangar (I believe) and all was killed on the aircraft.

I saw video on it and some commentaries about it but what was final ruling on what happened?

Some say he was a hotshot pilot that was showboating and put into a manuever that the plane wasn't designed for.

What are your thoughts on it?

By the way, great pictures you got going on..........keep it up.:)

Fairchild AFB, 1994. The guy was doing things in a B-52 that shouldn't be done. He crashed the airplane. There was a wide range of fuckups that took place, allowing it to happen. Hopefully it will not happen again.

JDAM... best damn weapon invented in a looooong time. Have coordinates, will kill. Bad weather, good weather, no weather, day, night, full moon, no moon. It just doesn't matter. Yer dead.

jnuts what are you going to do in the future?:D

UAVs are very hot right now and for good reason :)

Live predator video feed has been described as more addicting than "crack". When you've seen it in action, you'll understand why. Now that the genie is out of the bottle with arming them (predator and hellfire)....

Because of my dicked up neck I just might end up in the UAV world in a year or two. Might be livable if they get a plane for those guys to fly on side. Something like a T-37/38 to keep them sane.

Regarding UAVs.... I just wrote some software for one last week :) 20hrs / day for 5 days. Crunch time coding...

It's a long story and I can't say too much about it right now. We'll see if they are in the news :)

Wow, that's a ton of airpower. I saw on television that some bombs had "Le'ts Roll" written on them.

What keeps these things from being shot down? Do they have evasive manuevers and systems that will prevent a lot of them from being shot down?

I know we have lost a couple of these in Afghanistan(I believe)

What are the costs of these vehicles and how many do we have at our disposal?

The Predator is one hell of a workhorse!

Sounds like fun!

When will I see a armed Global Hawk on the battle field?:D
May be wishfully thinking for the GH!

Not really. These are first generation devices

I know we have lost a couple of these in Afghanistan(I believe)

And over Iraq, Kosovo and Stateside... we've lost quite a few of them, for a variety of reasons.

What are the costs of these vehicles and how many do we have at our disposal? [/B]

Cheap...cheap...cheap for predator type and smaller UAV. Actual dollar cost? Don't know, though I'm sure it's floating around out there somewhere.

Expensive.......... for something like Global Hawks.

jnuts - Have you had any experience with A-10's? They are my favorite fighters, I don't know why but something about them just looks mean as hell, one of the best looking planes i've ever seen, even if they aren't exactly hot off the press. do they even still use them or anything?
if you have any good closeup pics of one, put it up!
