Raised heels on good mornings?

MsBeverlyHills said:
any of you guys do this? I was reading a Louie Simmons article in powerilfting USA & he suggest putting plates under your heels puts extra work on the lower back. He also likes raising the toes 1-2 inches to put more pressure on the hamstrings.

personally- havent tried this. when i did raise ny heels squatting- balance was off & i was falling forward too much.

so does his idea work?

IMO ....

Raising toes pre-stretches hamstrings. But I'd be careful. I've pulled a hamstring and that really hurts. Nice and slow ....

Heels raised for squats?
I used to do that and hated it because of the balance.
Then I was given Adidas shoes with a wooden insert in the heel. No more balance problem.
Then ......... I'm watching a vid of Platz ... old busted out tennis shoes ... no heel elevation .... all the way down and all the way up ... feet about 18" apart. That's the way to squat.

So, you want the most carryover to your dead?

Do you wear shoes w/ a heel when you DL?

I hope not. I DL barefoot.

If you want to vary something in your GM, vary your depth. Do em in a powerack. Work different depths from week to week w/ the pins. Dont be afraid to rest that bar and pause on the pin for a sec or 2. No momentum to executite the lift..just like your DL training.

Your GM stance should be the same as your DL stance as well.

Good luck. There is no better lift for assisiting your dead.
