Quote meaning, can anyone figure this out?

Having a hard time trying to figure out the meaning behind this famous quote, and would like some assistance in doing so.

The quote is as follows:

"They sicken of the calm that know the storm."
Dorothy Parker (1893 - 1967)

I'd appreciate your help.

Thanks,

I think it means that being comfortable all the time is boring to especially to those that have had to struggle.

At least that's what makes sense to me. Hope it helps.

people are sick of other people who don't get excited or prepared for an oncoming "storm" for whatever reasons. "storm" being literal or some form of oncoming trouble.

yep- if you are used to the action, you can't wait to get back into the fray...

I think it means that those that get nervous and distressed in time of crisis/action/craziness are jealous of those that remain calm and act in a cool manner.

One rep's interpreation is what I would go with as my first choice.

If you think calm before the storm, then one could interpret it to mean that the waiting is the worst part.

The newbie says "How can you people just sit there knowing what`s ahead?" while the veterans are rocking in their chairs.

If the bitch had put it in plain English, you would be able to understand it easier. I hate poetry.
