First off, what is a good morning. I hear they can develope your lower body nicely. Also, what is so wrong with using a smith machine. I work out alone. I hate having someone there nagging on my shoulder. But on days where im feeling weak, i use the smith machine for behind neck presses, military presses, and bench. I use free weights most of the time, as being bymyself, i HAVE to push the weight back up. Its a mind game for me. But when i KNOW i am not feeling strong, i just on the smith machine. By using it, stacking on more weight than a regular bench, wouldnt it be the same. Granted jumping on a regular bench vs a smith, you loose about 40 pounds off your bench. It still works your chest and orms, right?
