Who named cornmeal? Why would they name it that? CORN +MEAL? Is there something to that?

What does it even mean? It really pisses me off. If I ever find the guy who named it, I would give him a dirty look.

Merriam Webster says:

Cornmeal - meal ground from corn
Meal - the usually coarsely ground and unbottled seeds of a cereal grass or pulse; especially cornmeal

Secondly, why on earth am I up at 3:00am? No wonder I never hear my alarm in the morning.
