Questions about 5x5 for a Powerlifter

Hello I am looking to try either the intermediate or advanced version of the Bill Starr 5x5. I have a few concerns though:


1. When I deadlift my lower back is sore AND weak for the next few days. There is no way Id be able to squat again after a day of rest. Ive tried it. As a PLer I certainly dont want to take out deads though.

Is it Ok to have Mon Wed as the main heavy squatting/bench days and Fri as the Deadlift/mil press day? I would think it might not huh? Any other solutions?

2. Wide PL squats instead of OLY squats OK?

3. Speedwork - it helps me a lot and is important. I was thinking of doing it at the beginning of the deadlift day (for both squats/deads and bench) and taking out the light squats/front squats. Would that work?

I dont see anything wrong with that. The program you described is a cookie cutter, there is nothing wrong with customizing it to suit your needs. I see nothing wrong with your substitutions.
